Pereira submitted a proposal to move the umpire from between the linebackers to opposite the referee that lines up on one side of the QB. I don't know the exact reasoning behind this, but it was likely done out of official safety, offensive line holding, and the NFL employs eight on field officials and two review officials (on site + NY).

Had the umpire position not been moved, they should have free lanced their sight from the line (GCG) and tracked where the ball was being passed. This would have given them a great view of the grab and pull.

You'll notice the field judge official (?) in the replay would only have seen the backs of both Higgins and Ramsey, and may have seen what appeared to be a contested ball that Higgins won. They can't review the penalty on site or NY in this situation. This review was only a pilot for one year thanks to Asshole Face.

TL;DR: Field judge had a great view of Ramsey's and Higgins' backs. NFL needs to reconsider getting an umpire back on the defensive side of the field. See Higgins/Ramsey and Dallas (spots the ball) game.

Not even gonna let myself go there. I was actually walking from my living room full of family to the basement when that all went down. I heard everyone like "noooo, damn that was a terrible way to start the second half".

I literally told myself in that moment, no worries. Rams win this game... And so they did.... And that is all I care to think about. Join me brother. Our season was stressful enough, haha. Bask....

Yeah. Absolutely let it go. It doesn't mean s..t! Super Bowls just don't call penalties, except last couple minutes or so. Look at how screwed we were in the first Pats Super Bowl loss. No one ever mentions the Warner hands to the face or Brady's intentional grounding on the last scoring drive.

LET IT GO!

There is no way Higgins thought he would get away with the face mask (it was too blatant and too center of attention) but my guess is he did it to keep Ramsey from intercepting the ball. Well it worked and then some. It’s a dangerous precedent to set as other WRs may try the same. I could accept acknowledgement from the NFL they missed a blatant and critical call but to pretend no one saw it is disrespectful to the game and to fans.

i guess im in the minority but i could watch that 100 times and ill still never see the facemask in full speed. i really dont blame the refs at all tbh. really tough to see without slow mo replay

From behind the play, the way we originally viewed it at full speed, it looked like Ramsey stumbled and fell, I agree. From the side its clear imo.

Here is what I don't understand. All touchdowns get reviewed, even after the ref signals Touchdown. How is that entire play not reviewed?

Or all it would take is for New York to say, " Flag!". The ref throws it and if its wrong pick it up. With technology and all of those camera angles that are being watched some official had to have seen that something questionable happened. Its better to get the call right imo and they have the ability to do it.

or at least review the player that had the ball and scored.

what i don't get is everyone saw ramsey flying through the air for 5 yards. my initial reaction was that he was pushed off. why wouldn't the refs throw the flag then have a discussion and ask new york if they saw anything? if there was nothing there they would pick up the flag. once they did nothing it was over and couldn't be overturned. it's just the illogical way to do it.

You mean Pats fans and the MSM sports media never mention it. I have beaten that drum to death on numerous forums over the years, as have others. I should have copyrighted the phrase "The FIX that was XXXVI". The Super Bowl as PSYOP, is what it was.

they eventually are going to use the "eye in the sky" cam that can review calls - in the future this call will likely get made.

It did happen so fast and at a weird angle that i get how the official didnt see it.

The ball Burrow threw was not good either. Ramsey was in position to make an interception. He under threw the ball across the field.

Here is what one Bengal fan actually said to me, it's different the Refs didn't call it, so you can only complain about calls not non calls because they don't exist.

As much as I agree with you, imagine being a Saints fan. Sometimes the calls go with you, sometimes against you.
For us, this wasn't a game changer in terms of we lost the chance to go to a SB..
On the other hand, had the call gone against us (as it probably should have) we aren't playing the pats in the SB in 19'

What makes it PARTICULARLY bad is that Ramsey had PERFECT position on the play. At the very least, he would have knocked the ball down, but the truth is, he was in perfect position for a pick.
