Morning Ram-blings: Tre Mason to break out?

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher has not been shy about what he wants his offense to be. For two decades, it's been a run-heavy attack intended to wear opponents down and let the defense finish the job.
So it stands to reason that any list of potential breakout candidates entering their second season in the NFL would include a running back who appears to have taken command of the starting running back job for a Fisher team.
That's exactly why Rams running back Tre Mason checks in at No. 3 on ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates' list of potential second-year breakout candidates.
As we discussed in a recent article, the Rams appear to be committed to Mason as the primary back, with Benny Cunningham as the third-down option moving forward. Of course, they said similar things about Zac Stacy last year at this time and then drafted Mason in the third round.
If such value is staring them in the face, would anyone be surprised if the Rams took another back this year? Clearly, those picks would be better spent elsewhere, but Fisher has a long history of drafting running backs and his Rams have done so in each of the three drafts he's run since arriving in St. Louis.
So while Mason is a logical pick to be a possible breakout player in 2015, it's probably best to wait and see what the Rams do in the draft -- both in terms of potentially taking another back and adding better run blockers in front of him -- before jumping on the bandwagon.
