Morning Ram-blings: Schottenheimer to Georgia?
By Nick Wagoner

http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/15187/morning-ram-blings-schottenheimer-to-georgia

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- At his end of the year news conference, St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher said he didn't anticipate any changes to his coaching staff, offering an endorsement of offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer in the process.

The key word there is anticipate. In other words, it's possible a change could be made if a coach decided to leave for a different opportunity. On Sunday, the Athens (Georgia) Banner-Herald reported that Schottenheimer might be in line to make just such a move.

The University of Georgia is in need of a new offensive coordinator after Mike Bobo left to become the new head coach at Colorado State. Schottenheimer is one of three names that's been mentioned as a possible replacement.

Technically, the Banner-Herald cites Schottenheimer's name as having come up on Scout.com but either way his name has popped up.

The question that this begs is why, exactly, Schottenheimer would go to the college ranks for a coordinator job he already holds in the NFL? A college head coaching job, sure, but why a lateral coordinator job?

It remains to be seen how much validity there is to the connection between the sides here but one could argue that perhaps Schottenheimer might be looking for a fresh start somewhere considering that another poor offensive season could have his and every other coach on the current staff in a shaky spot moving forward.

Schottenheimer was in the mix for the Vanderbilt head coaching job a year ago but that gig ultimately went to Derek Mason. It seems unlikely Schottenheimer would move on for this type of a job but given the crazy things that happen in the coaching world on a consistent basis, it's probably not wise to rule anything out.

Doesn't make sense for him to take a lateral move into the college ranks... which, to me, would be a demotion.

If he's gone, I'd guess there was more to the move than eny of us will ever know.

This is practically like being a member of Led Zeppelin and getting offered a job with the high school band.

He could make this move if Jeff Fisher informed him it would be an excellent move for him. He was the finlaist in the Alabama job three years ago. This is our hope gentlemen, please Schotty have Georgia on your mind!

Maybe he feels a fresh start would be best, as opposed to another bad offensive showing next year. Sure Schott has been a little snakebit with injuries and poor personnel, but nobody will remember that. They will only remember that he had bad offenses.

Now of h miraculously made the Rams offense good with backups and a below average Oline, well that would make people notice.

Three guys that I could not understand for the life of me why they would even be considered for head coaching jobs, but have been rumored to have had interviews in the past are Linehan, Shurmur, and Schottenheimer.

Of course, also for all we know, this is all part of Schotty's evil plan to subjugate humanity and hand over dominance of Earth to... the frogs!

In other words, we really don't know anything.

But for right now, I'm assuming the reporter was just guessing until we hear more.

Whoops!!!

THE TEN AT 10:
1.
Georgia’s offensive coordinator search, at this point at least, appears to be coming down to three primary candidates: Mike Bloomgren, Kurt Roper and John Lilly. Sources indicate all three will interview with head coach Mark Richt this week.
