My #1 Target: Zach Wilson, QB, Broncos (to date)

This team needs to seriously begin to look for Stafford’s replacement. And after looking over this potential QB draft class, I’m not so sure that the 25-years old Wilson as a reclamation project isn’t by far the best option.

This mock draft assumes that Alaric Jackson is franchised and/or re-signed.

TRADES
Rams trade OL Jonah Jackson & the 6th round selection they received from the Texans (Woods) back to the Texas for their 5th round selection.

Rams trade WR Cooper Kupp to the Jacksonville Jaguars for one of their 5th round selections. Liam Cohen add a veteran to pair with Brian Thomas Jr. to help teach the offense.

1.26) Azareye’h Thomas, CB, Florida State, 6014, 191

View: https://youtu.be/Z194NkQMLWo?si=tFR6agJJbCc90vdD
Going back to the FSU well (Verse, Fiske) to nab what may be an underrated CB with his good size and length that could provide the team someone capable of press man, lock down duties to help turn some the defensive front’s pressures into sacks.

2) Traded to Carolina in Braden Fiske trade up deal

3) Jalen Royals, WR, Utah State, 5113, 210

View: https://youtu.be/DO-ea02-sW8?si=Kp8OTV1aa1KKn9us
Rams add much needed speed to the WR core. Royals appears to have the Alpha Dog personality and a chip on his shoulder to be successful. Hopefully he doesn’t show out too much in Senior Bowl practices.

3) Jalin Conyers, TE, Texas Tech, 6030, 263

View: https://youtu.be/m_yhRk0sZvs?si=vXZv-8aQWEyUADS9
Another former QB turned TE that nobody seems to be talking about. This kid looks to be pretty fluid has good size, plays fast, and can block. Maybe I’m overdoing it, but could this be the next George Kittle??? First rounder on a TE not named Brock Bowers? No. Especially not in a deep TE draft class.

4) John Williams, OT, Cincinnati, 6033, 324

View: https://youtu.be/79AKqfR7FjM?si=U6_lHzsr7d0seERB
Williams doesn’t have the ideal height for OT, but with 34 ¾ arms and 10 ¾ hands, I like his chances. One of the better pass protectors in the draft class as he’s only allowed 3 sacks over the past 3 seasons from what I understand.

5) Fadil Diggs, EDGE, Syracuse 6035, 261 (proposed Steelers trade)

View: https://youtu.be/QfEWcVLPP6o?si=WSer5GrYcArPnEtb
Potential replacement for Hoecht who I’m expecting Raheem Morris to nab via free agency. Diggs can line up all over the defensive front to rush the passer and would be far better in coverage.

5) Yahya Black, DT, Iowa, 6055, 337 (proposed Texans trade)

View: https://youtu.be/cNYYei_khgA?si=fC4Zz9Do6hj-odxV
With or without Bobby Brown, the Rams need another big body in the trenches. Black gives little outside of a bull rush vs. the pass, but he could be the run stuffer this team needs in the DLine rotation.

6) Montrell Johnson, Jr., RB, Florida 511, 214

View: https://youtu.be/IeCEzqFa7VI?si=7-ejK4iAsYSQXoxJ
Figured I’d add a bigger back with some speed from this DEEEEP RB draft class and Johnson Jr. seems to fit the bill.

6) Shaun Dolac, LB, Buffalo 6002, 225

View: https://youtu.be/t4qNnINe_L4?si=_DSfjmKocEhhFQYW
Rams don’t seem to value them, but I had to grab at least one LB. Here we have an instinctive small school LB that led the nation in tackles.

6) Sent to Texans in proposed Jonah Jackson trade.

Very nicely done....I like it! I, too, would like to see what Coach Mac could do with Z. Wilson. I get the feeling that, much like Sam Darnold, he was thrown to the wolves by the Jets and not given the support or coaching he needed.
Hopefully an under the radar move like this could solve our QB issues for years to come.....

You beat me to it!
Just last night I was starting the mock draft process and my #1 targeted CB was Thomas. Ditto on everything you said about him.
It looks like he’s going late 1rst to mid 2nd. There’s no way he’d make it to the Rams in the late 3rd. Without a 2nd round pick (at the moment), I would be ok drafting him in the late 1rst, but that might be a hard sell to McVay.

When it comes to the OL, I agree the Rams need to bring back AJ one way or the other. They just don’t need that kind of a situation (searching for aLT) when AJ is in the top half of the league, at the very least.

…but I’m not so ready to dump JJ. Noteboom is gone. JJ will be Noteboom 2.0. He will be a versatile interior swing player who has health issues and is overpaid; but he is established and shown he’s capable of playing good football—at times.

When it comes to the rest of your draft, you did a great job addressing team needs and concerns, especially the skill positions.

Nice work.

Outstanding @Memphis Ram as I too am a fan of signing Zach Wilson. It was reported in Denver how outstanding he was in the locker room and sit him behind Stafford to learn from one of the best, which will suit him well.

The Draft covers all the needs with CB,, WR, TE & OT. Plus I have watched a ton of Shaun Dolac from Buffalo and he would be an upgrade over Rozeboom instantaneously.

I like it. I'm admittedly not fully versed on some of these guys yet, but we certainly address needs. Wilson as our backup and future, I like alot.

Mannn... I really like some of these mid-round gems.
Thomas + Royal hits our immediate needs & make sense.
But that TE... the more I watch him, the more I want him -- he is a real playmaker.
That FL RB too, wow... size, long speed, me likey.
Overall I think this would be a great draft, I didn't focus too much on your D players b/c I'm mostly worried about getting playmakers on O, and for the value, I think you hit em good.

Very interesting mock with some talented players! Feels optimistic on Royals sliding. Some have him in the first round. Don't know about Thomas as a scheme fit. Are we projecting that Shula is going to utilize a bunch of press man going forward? Because that hasn't been a big part of our scheme. Granted, we've had small CBs, but it's a big change.

On Montrell Johnson, I'd say his game is predicated more on vision and patience than anything. He's not a speedster. And he isn't a particularly violent runner. If you give him a seam, he has enough juice to pick up plenty of yardage, but he's not a 4.3 or 4.4 guy imo. If you're wanting a power HB, that's not him.

Anything is possible, but IMO Royals is going to have to have an outstanding Senior Bowl Week to crack the 1st round.

It's my belief that if the Rams had someone capable of playing press man effectively, they would use it more often. IMO, the team needs someone who can potentially lock down an X so that they can roll coverage to a possible weaker side.

Montrell Johnson wasn't my first choice, but he looks faster than Kyren to me. Actually I just added a RB late for effect. The players I'd really prefer at that spot is Georgia Tech TE Hawes or Bama TE CJ Dippre as I would clean house at TE and hope for the team to nab at least one strong blocker.

Very, very realistic trades. Seems like you're attacking the needs realistically as well.

Oh yeah. Please McVay/Snead draft TE Jackson Hawes.
Just made nice catch from FB position and looked pretty fluid for a guy known for his blocking.
