McVay's best game this year

And the defense was fantastic.

Maybe the Saints game was better called/planned/played but this is at least the equal of that day.

But IMO this was the best game McVay called all year. On OL he had newbies going against a powerful defense. Gurley was lining up 8-9 yards deep and let the OL move the DL back. That was smart. He didn't get pass happy, even when the OL was giving Goff time, which was great to see. The Bears did get some pressure here and there but most of the time when a pass play was called Goff had time to read and throw.

The Bears are struggling on O and the D took advantage of that.

3 sacks, 6 tackles for a loss, 9 passes defended, 5 QB hits............that's a good day!!! And they did a really good job tackling. The Bears RB's had 23 carries for 70 yards, 12 came on one run. So on the other 23 they only got 58 yards. They got wrapped up and taken down quickly.

This was a very good win.

Offense was actually solid in the 1st quarter - then figured it out at the end again. McVay knew that the D was going to hold up their end. All Los Ramos had to do was pound it until the Bears wore out, and they did.

Yeah.... both of our touchdowns were the result of chunk pass plays. No different than in the past.

I did agree with running the ball a lot however.... keep it close, limit turnovers and let Trubisky suck like he does.

Yes our defense got the job done. The Bears are like 28th in the nfl in rushing, in general they have no offense.

Next week will be a real test for sure.

Great game plan and Goff had time to throw and credit the OL they opened up big holes for Hurley.

Next week will be a completely different scenario. The Ravens have a much stronger running game. Keys to beating them is don't get up field too far and eliminate the run game easier said then done. Our run d will be tested.

He committed to running the ball and protecting Goff. Two things he hasn't been doing enough of IMO. And he certainly didn't do that last year against the Bears.

This goes a long way with me because if he had not done those two things and continued doing things he has been the Rams could have lost this game. Instead they were pretty much in the drivers seat all night.

It wasn't "pretty" win, but had he not used this game plan it well could have been an ugly loss like last year.

Hmmm, strange, I thought McVay seemed lost with the play calling. 3 runs in a row over and over isn't good play calling.

How many times did we run on 3rd and short when any number of rollouts or slants would have worked? I know the TEs were in to block due to the new line, but how can you not disguise that and have a TE roll out after a block for a 1st down?

McVay looks confused on play calling, but I do have to say he did enough to win the game against a good Bears defense.

Agree. He knew he had to do whatever possible to protect Goff regardless of what he wants to do otherwise.

This offense is not going to be near what it was last season. The defense is going to have to win games. As good as the defense is I am not certain it is capable of dominating like it needs to.

I agree...McVay coached to the talent on the field and not on what he had drawn up. Good coaches make adjustments like this. Wish it happened sooner, but happy and encouraged it did!

I think McVay was not comfortable with the Kupo, Reynolds, Thomas WR set, and he went with the run game for that reason.

When Goff threw that first INT, I think that gave McVay pause, because looking at the pick, Goff and Reynolds(?) weren't on the same page...and that shook up McVay.

The OLine was superb last night! After the Bears went to their 6 man front though...it took McVay a while to adjust...and that sent me back to the SB where he never got his TEs involved in the game and played right into Belichick's hands.

McVay has to be quicker making adjustments...and he has to talk to Goff more about what he sees and thinks from the pocket.

With the game on the line (from my perspective), he finally saw with a 6 man front he could attack with the pass game. Goff was superb throwing during that time too.

I don't presume to know all the answers...BUT...when you don't employ every weapon of your offense...and teams see that, they game plan for it because you're predictable. That's what we're seeing this year. Teams know McVay's tendencies, and they take them away...and he seems lost.

I won't say McVay looked confused. I think he was more conservative than he could have been. Rams won which is the main thing. Considering the offensive line changes and injuries I understand why he went conservative. I think he could have made some more creative calls on the third and short situations. He is going to have to mix things up more in the upcoming games. I like that he finally gave Gurley the ball and he responded with a great effort.

I've been critical of McVay's play calling and this was actually pretty close to perfect.

He varied it quite a bit without abandoning the run, and seemed to exploit the 6-1 rather than get drawn into the teeth of that meat grinder. "Untimely" penalties definitely made their impact on a very well planned offense, I think.

Execution on the line had its ups and downs as expected and Higbee seemed to have a great game as did Everett.

Our defense played well. Our offense looked inept at best. I thought the line played well, and we didn't abandon the run which was great. But the 3 and outs, bad passes, turnovers, predictable plays, etc. We just aren't a dominate offensive team this year. It's a bummer, but it is what it is.
