They didn't take or sign a single Hawkeye. So fuck this whole offseason and draft. Absolute failure.

Seriously though.

A couple takeaways:

Snead has to stop chewing a straw in front of a mic.

They were in love with Bruss and thought about trading up to get him, but couldn't find any takers, and so were happy he was still there.

Love Williams and think his "contact balance" is excellent, and McVay thinks there's a lot of carryover in concepts from the ND offensive system.

Yeah I came away from it thinking Williams has every chance to get regular carries/catches in this offense.

Wonder if McVay realized that after drafting Skow. Because Skow really got up to speed quick. And makes me wonder if we might see a future Notre Dame connection.

Yea....luckily I think that Williams will actually be good at football in addition to being able to get up to speed quickly

Probably going to translate to LSU then with Kelley leaving ND for LSU

I forgot about the NDame connection with Skow and K. Williams. Skow flashed but was frustrating last season. I'm expecting a tick up in Skow's consistency in year 2.

Skow did a good job. I'm looking forward to year two for him.

We talking about the same guy? The one that dropped a wide open TD in the NFCCG and then dropped an open pass that led to an INT in the Super Bowl?

His blocking was decent....even with that IMO he was a negative across the board.

He caught some passes too. I'm just having perspective here. The guy actually learned a really tough offense right away and got a lot of playing time in the biggest situations. Him just running the right routes out there and lining up correctly would have been a great start.

I’m intrigued.

Any guy who goes that hard for you on special teams has earned a chance to develop, imo.

What was he a 7th rounder? Made the team, got some productive play on offense, I will never consider that a drop on the “TD” it would have been a spectacular catch.

I do expect him to step up, he’s got a great coaching staff to work with and if he’s smart his in Kupp’s hip pocket.

He was also a fucking STUD on special teams. Skow was a fantastic pick IMO. :thumbsup1:

One other thing is his upside isn't super high, he doesn't have insane separation and route running ability and all that. But he does have soft hands and is very physical and has a QB who likes to put the ball on big targets even when they're not open. So I don't think he's going to be a poor man's Kupp or anything like that but he might be a bigger Woody down the road doing all kinds of dirty work in this offense.

I'm going to guess that a lot of it has to do with entry requirements as well. My guess is that it takes more than athleticism to get into ND.

The guy was a 7th round pick and played a hell of a lot of snaps as a ROOKIE. You're going to damn him over a couple plays when he did so many good things and made some very good and tough catches? You want them to bring back stoning for blasphemers - admit it.

Cooper Kupp had key mistakes in his rookie year. The fourth quarter, fourth down drop against Seattle. The fumble against Minnesota. And this is the best receiver in the NFL.

Who’s to say that Skowronek, Harris, hell, even Atwell can’t improve like Kupp did?

Tough on the kid, haha. The "drop" you mention would have been a fantastic catch. For what it is worth, I think he makes that catch more than he drops it in the future.

He was 100000% held on the pass he "dropped" and got picked in the SB. It fucked up the timing on that play. I don't blame him too much for either of those plays.

Judging him being a 7th round pick, good pick.

But as a third WR? Horrible. That's not fair to him. But he just isn't an NFL WR.

He was wide open in the end zone and the pass hit him in the hands - any WR - even undrafted ones - should catch that.
