Schein: Matt Stafford Changes Everything for Rams

In 2020, the NFL’s talking heads circuit had the LA Rams all but dead, many projecting them to finish last in the NFC West and end up below .500 for the first time during head coach Sean McVay’s watch. Suddenly, this year the LA Rams are the darlings of the NFL. Can one player truly make THAT much of a difference?

In a word, yes.

And that is exactly what CBS Sports News pundit Adam Schein claims has happened from the moment that the LA Rams traded with the Detroit Lions for veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.

It started with a phone interview on Adam Schein’s Sirius radio podcast on Mad Dogs Sports Radio when Rams head coach spoke to Schein about the fit of Stafford to the Rams offense. But McVay stated that the Rams will import some of the offense from Stafford’s days with Detroit. That opens an entirely new conversation for the future. But for now, McVay is sold that Stafford can deliver his team a Lombardi.

We’d be silly not to implement (what Stafford did in Detroit)

Just check out this podcast held earlier in the week:

“You’re going to see some stuff that’s reflected in a lot of the success that he’s had in Detroit. We would be silly not to implement these things.”#Rams HC Sean McVay tells @AdamSchein why he’s excited to collaborate with new QB Matthew Stafford. pic.twitter.com/KvCrK2aHbj

— Mad Dog Sports Radio (@MadDogRadio) May 6, 2021

Of course, after hearing the vigor and enthusiasm of Sean McVay, Adam Schein was hooked as well. He’s now a believer in what the Rams are capable of doing in 2021. And he’s shouting it from the highest mountain top. Or at least to the nearest hot microphone.

Need more proof? Here is a video segment from Adam Schein recorded the very next day. Note how excited he is with the Rams offensive weapons, including speedy receiver Tutu Atwell.

This isn’t the first time that Schein has been touting the fit of new quarterback Matthew Stafford with the LA Rams offense.

Stafford is a hot NFL topic

As is often the case, major moves by an NFL team are often applauded by the NFL sports circuit. Talk shows often key on major NFL news with a strong pro or con perspective. Schein has even gone so far as to say that the trade for Stafford ‘Makes the LA Rams the clear favorite in the best division in football.’

Of course, Adam Schein’s endorsement can be construed as the kiss of death, like so many pundits. His 2020 NFL predictions for Super Bowl contenders included the Kansas City Chiefs (14-2), the Baltimore Ravens (11-5), the San Francisco 49ers (6-10), the Houston Texans (4-12), the Dallas Cowboys (6-10), the Green Bay Packers (13-3), the Philadelphia Eagles (4-11-1), the Buffalo Bills (13-3), and the Seattle Seahawks (12-4). He picked five teams that made it to the NFL Playoffs, and four teams that did not.

Let’s hope that the Rams get the positive and truly excel in 2021, and not the kiss of death like that of the 49ers, Cowboys, Eagles, and Texans. I’ve never been much of a fan of Adam Schein, simply because everything he claims is to the extreme, much like a Sith Lord talks in absolutes. I think that the LA Rams are a better team this year. How much better? Well, that remains to be seen. But if you believe CBS Sports Network analyst Adam Schein? Good enough to win Super Bowl LVI.

I can't fucking stand Adam Schein. But he's reading this one accurately.

Stafford is going to be a revelation in LA. We're going to win a Super Bowl with this dude. :part:

He better be on this will be a complete face plant by McVay, Remember Goff put up great numbers the first two years. So while the assumption is Goff not growing it could also be McVay not adapting.

There's a long line of posters waiting to shit on that move if it doesn't work out, sure. But I don't give a fuck about any of that.

Have fun sitting on that fence man. I'm all in.

Stafford addition plus Blythe gone equals huge upgrade
train
I think Blythe gone is huge upgrade all by itself.

I just hope we have a center in the wings that can at least hold his own against the better nose tackles in the league and not do the Matador (new dance created by Blythe - okay that was a little mean).

What I’m excited about is I feel that McVay is reenergized by Stafford which I believe will show in his play call/design. I’m looking forward to further innovation on offense.

Man I cant stand Adam Schein, but I agree that we should be excited not for what the other guy couldnt do, but for what Stafford can do. He's raising McVay's bar, in a sense taking a page out of James Collins book, "From Good to Great"

Yes, and the Cowboys are going to be special this year...

Talk is cheap. Hopefully Rams will be serious contenders, but I am not going to. believe it because this dude says so.

My own view is that adding the deep threat and speed with DSJ and Atwell makes it much more likely that Rams can take the division and pose a serious threat in the playoffs. Not being able to stretch the field was a serious issue last year and imo would have been a serious issue for Stafford. Changing qbs alone doesn't magically transform the offense, and McVay knows it.

Now we'll see if Corbett can play center.

IMO the added speed plus Staffords experience and gun slinger tendencies will make the Rams O very dangerous. If Stafford sees that the D is leaving an opening over the top, he has the speed at WR to take advantage, the confidence to send the WR on a go route and the arm talent to deliver. Just the threat of going deep will open up the run and the run will open up the deep ball.

IDK if Goff didnt have the confidence or if McVay wouldnt allow him to take the chances that Stafford will take. But Stafford isnt going to just be a good boy and not take chances. I doubt any of us know how badly Stafford wants a ring. And he sure as hell isnt going to just play it safe and hope that is good enough to reach the ultimate goal.

LOL. Since when? All I've seen is how the shitters will get all their injured players back and their draft trade up and the Cardinals winning FA again.

With the Rams they "gave up too much" and "mortgaged their future" (whatever TF that means). Ta loco.

So changing the trigger man on offense, the guy who makes all the audibles, reads the defense and throws all the passes isn’t all that important???

I guess Brady made no difference for the Bucs. :explode:

Would just like to point out that even in a universe where Goff & Stafford had the same QB brain...
Staff has a quicker drop, a quicker release, a stronger arm & is a bit more elusive out of the pocket.

Even though Wolford is JAG, it was clear to me, shocking really...at just how much faster the tempo was immediately post snap. I feel like that really elevated the offense more than anything. Wolf's throws were "okay" and he used his legs but i feel like we got into the play and therefore the reads more quickly.

I really hope Staff is able to digest this playbook quickly. Goff acclimated quickly & Wolford seemed ready to go too when he suddenly got tossed in there.

And if he doesn't all of those against the trade will be crowing about being right.

I'm going to guess that its going to take a few games for Stafford to really get clicking with the offense. Hopefully he's not facing top ten defenses in the first few games.

I won't be crowing. I just felt we gave up too much but McVay wanted the only available QB that he feels fits his offense the best. And was willing to spend the price.

I just hope he is right. And to tell the truth - I think he will be right especially with the speed demons he now has. And I hate harping on this but we better have a capable center to hold the line for more than 2 secs or Stafford is going to be running around a lot. But that could be fun watching too lol.

However, if he isn't, we won't have any first round picks to find someone who does.

If they aren’t already practicing together they need to get the hell out of Kalifornia and go somewhere that isn’t on lock down. There are still free states where we the people are in charge.

Yeah, that was the biggest thing that was noticeable was the energy and tempo in that Cards game. Will be interesting to see if the forced timeouts because the offense doesn't get up to the line of scrimmage in time is still a thing this season. I like Goff's calm, methodical personality but I think it got in the way of tempo at times and, in only my humble opinion, it started to rub McVay the wrong way too. From what I've seen of Stafford he doesn't let the grass grow underneath him ever.
