9-man coaching-staff, including the Head Coach.

2025 Rams have a 23-man coaching-staff.

That was my 1st Rams Media Guide. My father got it for me. Read it cover-to-cover.
Big deal back in ancient times because there was so little coverage of teams outside your local area.

Large coaching staff for 1973. Like you I read it cover to cover and is why I have such a great recollection of that team and their balding field general. (That was for @Loyal )

I will try to Not post like a Crazy Person on this thread ... No Promises ... because this media guide brings-back so many fond memories. Just one quick point.

I was excited that 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist Rod Milburn (hurdles) was on the pre-season roster; and later disappointed that it did not work-out. The Olympics were a huge deal, and Milburn was exciting to watch. Thought the Rams might have found the next Bob Hayes!

Just how long was Don Hewitt equipment manager. I could swear he was equipment manager just a few years ago.

Of course, I could be imaging that.

Cullen Bryant as a CB? I never knew that. With 12 RBs in camp, how did Cullen end up a RB?

Teams carried a lot of running backs at that time ... 5 or 6 (on a 45-man roster) was common.

In 1973, McCutcheon and Bertelsen started (and were the best combo in the NFL). They were backed-up by four more RBs (Touchdown Tony Baker, Larry Smith, Les Josephson and Rob Scribner). Those back-ups had over 200 carries; and the Rams ran the ball more than 45 times per-game.

Bryant didn't have a carry, and played mostly on Special Teams. When he did get some game action on Defense, it was at safety ... if I recall correctly. In his first five seasons, Cullen Bryant was mostly behind Bertelsen and Cappelletti at FB, with McCutcheon the bell-cow.

Also note that the Media Guide 's pre-season roster did not include two of the Rams' starting DBs that year. Veterans Charlie Stukes (CB) and Steve Preece (S) must have been added after its publication.

Sounds like a plan. Let's run with it.

Enjoy Gentlemen....I really like the offensive backfield/Special Teams Coach, but that's just me.

Count me in on that as well Den. It's amazing how many great coaches originated in Northern Ca. in this area. Vermeil from Napa, Madden and his best pal Johnny Robinson from Daly City, the gum chewer from Marin County, and many more.

We had two guys named Olsen and two guys named Youngblood on the team.
Brothers Merlin and Phil played side-by-side at DT for much of 1971 and 1972.

Phil was the 4th overall pick in 1970 by New England, while big-brother Merlin went 3rd overall in 1962.

What I find most interesting is in the personal bio's they list every player (with the exception of those continuing college) as having a job during the off season! Even read one that worked for Ralph Williams of Ralph Williams Ford fame. If you grew up in SoCal you should remember his commercials..."Hello folks, Ralph Williams here for Ralph Williams Ford..."

Those guys didn't make the money like the players do today.
