Report: Ken Whisenhunt back as Chargers offensive coordinator

The Chargers are headed back to San Diego, at least temporarily, and so is Ken Whisenhunt.

Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Whisenhunt will return to his previous job as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator. Whisenhunt filled the same role during the 2013 season before being hired as the Titans’ head coach.

Whisenhunt was fired during the regular season and his name came up as a possible hire for the Chargers when Frank Reich was dispatched earlier this month.

The Chargers finished fifth in the NFL in yards and 12th in points during Whisenhunt’s year on the job. They also advanced to the postseason, something they have not done in the last two seasons as the offense failed to reach the same heights. The running game ranked 30th and 31st in those seasons and getting that part of the game on track will likely be a particular focus for Whisenhunt in his return engagement with the Chargers.

Very wise hire by SD. They need to address their OL but I expect big improvement in that offense now.

I can never make up my mind about Whiz.
He has certainly had some success....he also had two HOF QBs to work with. Of course, Rivers is very, very good, so we shall see.
