Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch joins 920am...would love to have Marcus Mariota as a QB in St. Louis…background checks ran on all top draft picks, Jameis needs to mature, best value in terms of the draft, not as good of a draft overall as last year, change needed on the Rams offensive line.

Jim Thomas on The Rams and 2015 Draft

St. Louis Post-Dispatch Rams beat writer Jim Thomas joined The Ryan Kelley Morning After on Friday and discussed some of the top prospects in April's NLF Draft. He also gave his early opinion on what he believes the Rams will do in the off-season to bolster the roster.

Have a pulse on what the Rams are thinking? In general, it's not considered nearly as good of a draft as it was last year. A guy like (Marcus Roberson), Les Snead thought it most years he'd be a fifth-round draft pick. But last year's draft was so deep he went undrafted. Jeff Fisher said one of the reasons they were willing to give up mid-to-late round picks for (safety Mark Barron), they were factoring in the draft.

On quarterbacks: Most people think that if (Jameis) Winston and (Marcus) Mariotta are gone, you should wait for the second round.

On Rams: Who knows how they feel yet? I don't even know if they've cut down their pool of draft prospects yet. They start out with maybe 1,500 guys and wittle the list down. They're still pretty early in the process.

On Rams' off-season priority: Let's just say they stay at (the 10th pick). We've seen this lately where people that were tackles in college come in and play guard. Maybe the Rams could find something like that at 10 overall. There's no doubt they need help at the interior of the line. Say they did something like that in the first round, then look for a quarterback in round two, round three. That would seem the place to pick one of those guys.

That's exactly what I hope we do.

Enjoyed this, but I'm one that likes Jim Thomas I realize there is not much sizzle, but he's humble and does not speculate and you need to read between the lines with him. His Bryce Petty comments were interesting and IMO, this is the type of QB the Rams could very draft unless they make a deal for Mike Glennon that @jrry32 has posted about.

Petty who will be 24 next season could actually measure up well with Fisher & Brian Schottenheimer. Granted coming from the Baylor offense, there would be an adjustment, but I'm betting he scores well on the wonderlic and does well in the interviews. Hopefully his back checks out fine too.

Still a bit frustrating to think we could have had Z. Martin.
