NOTES:
Fisher wanted to hire him last year as assistant defensive coordinator (passing game), and this was not too long after Williams was hired. It wasn't related to Williams getting suspended or anything. He just liked him that much. He then went back to him after Ryan dropped out.
A part of what Fisher was thinking was, to get a young guy who could grow with the defense, and who was familiar with the defense (Schwartz defense). Schwartz was with Fisher for about 10 years in Tennessee, so it's a lot of the same stuff, and that helps.
He's got a good reputation (Walton). He sent a lot of corners and safeties to the NFL as a college coach.
He has been a coordinator in college, including for the Hurricanes, but he hasn't done it in the NFL. He had a good say in the game-planning in Detroit with Brandon Fisher. Brandon was on the staff in Detroit as assistant secondary coach in Detroit in 2011. So he knows Brandon Fisher, Schwartz, and of course Jeff, so it's all a good fit. When Jeff Fisher puts together these staff hires, he likes to make sure it's a good fit and everyone gets along well.
