Great man and great running back. He was the 1960's version of Bo Jackson.

Before my time as well but from what I have of his replays, only Barry Sanders might have been better as a RB.

Also - I loved his part in Dirty Dozen.

RIP

Jim Brown was just someone you’d expect would live forever. He was superhuman but alas even he couldn’t stiff arm the grim reaper. The world is a little less with his passing.

Jim Brown...in a class all by himself. 118 games and a 5.2 yards per carry average....highest in NFL history...Barry Sanders was close at 5.0 per carry and didn't play as long. RIP Mr. Brown

RIP. He was great. Tough to tackle. But let's be honest. He played in an era when there were many slow, fat (white) guys chasing him! There were great players but look at some of the video from the late 50's. Far fewer "athletes" playing then when "big" was often the main requirement. Would he have been the force he was then, now? I wonder. He still would have been damn good though.

A great man and a great player. RIP
Brown was a great athlete, all -American in lacrosse as well as football. He was the most physically dominant running back ever in the NFL. No one else is even close. Probably the strongest guy in the league. Ran over linemen. Quit at the top of his game at the age of 29 to be a successful actor.

But he also was a leader in the civil rights movement and in sports along with guys like Bill Russell, Curt Flood, Muhammed Ali, and many more in other fields. Racism was very intense at that time and being a black guy and a leader drew lots of criticism and hate. Or worse.

As you say, a great man.

You could say that about every athlete in the past.

Doesn't take away their greatness for their time.

Jim Brown was a hero to many. And he should have been.

RIP. A part of the NFL died today.

Great football player but terrible human. His arrest record and additional accusations are almost longer than his achievements on the field. Why do people always forget these things so easily.

Did you hear the story of why he quit football?

He was on the set of the Dirty Dozen and he called Art Modell to tell him he would be late for camp because they needed another week or two to finish up shooting the movie.

Modell told him come now or don't come at all. Brown called him back the next day and said he won't be coming at all. He quit football.

Yeah, I used to argue that with my uncle who was a big Jim Brown fan. However, you can't hold it against him that he was way ahead of his time.

You could say the same about Deacon Jones who was being blocked by 260lb OTs who the the only weights they lifted in the off season were 12 Oz beer cans.

He was 6-5 275 and way ahead of his time as well. He also would not be nearly as effective going against 6-7 325 lb OTs who are much more athletic than their 1960's counterparts.

My all time favorite RB (non-Ram) was Walter Payton. That guy did amazing things on some bad teams.

You can also say that Deacon's physique would have been different if he grew up in today's football environment.

I don't go with the well look who he was going against arguments.

Different times different physique's for ALL players.

Of course, one of his patented moves is outlawed now. But I think Deacon would have figured out something else.

Nowhere close, man. He was involved with domestic abuse and I can't stand for that at all because of people that are a part of my life. However, he knew he made mistakes, and from what I have heard on Serious/XM 88, he had attoned for it. I also believe in second chances, and it should happen more than not. Brown was a great football player, actor, and activist. I can't believe you are only going to see the negative in this man's life.
