Jets think they can have the best defensive line in the NFL

Rex Ryan is gone, but there’s still an abundance of confidence on the Jets’ defense.

In fact, multiple players on the Jets’ defensive line believe they can be the best unit in the NFL in 2015.

“Definitely the talent is there for us to be the best,” Jets defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson told NJ.com. “But work ethic and the work we put in this time of year, that’s when it’s all going to come together. And that’s when we’ll really find out what we’ve got.”

Jets defensive tackle Damon Harrison agreed with Vickerson’s assessment.

“Yeah, I can’t argue with that,” he said. “I’ve been here three years. I think this will probably be the best defensive line we’ve had as a unit overall, from top to bottom. We lost some guys this offseason, but we gained some pretty good guys at the same time.”

The big name the Jets’ defensive line added was Leonard Williams, the rookie from USC who is regarded by many as the most talented player in this year’s draft class. Add him to a line that already had Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson, and new coach Todd Bowles just might have the best defensive line in the league in his first season with the Jets.
---------
Not if the Rams defensive line has something to say about that.
----------
I don’t know that it can compete with a line comprised of Wake, Vernon and Suh.
---------
Although it’s very close between the Jets, Bills and Rams, I’d take Hughes, K.Williams, Dareus and M. Williams over the Jets.
---------
I would add the Dolphins to that list and include that you could make an argument for any of the 4 to have the best. AFCE is going to be a rough division this year with 3 very good defenses.
---------
The Bills have the best D line in football.
---------
Jets will have the Best Defensive unit in the NFL hands down. You put that secondary they got now with that D-Line, and it’s going to be the kind of defense that takes QB’s out. Calvin Pryor is going to lay the wood on opposing quarterbacks this year. BOOK IT!
---------
Robert Quinn is one of the NFL’s top pass-rushers, Aaron Donald might be the best DT in the league next year, Michael Brockers is a very good stuffer, Chris Long would be a major bonus if he rebounds, and there is plenty of depth. Yeah, that COULD be the NFL’s top line, as could the Jets’s, as could one or two others.

Saying and doing it is two different things as we learned the beginning of last year. I'm confident we'll start off strong this year.

That's not an unfair claim, on paper they are very talented and if they were our D line we would probably be saying the same thing.
But we all know our D line should dominate.

The Jets D wanna rumble with our Horns for bragging rights? We do our rumbling on the field. Ask the Cardinals QB crew who has the best DL in the entire league.

All four of the above-mentioned D-Lines are great units and have the potential to be the best. Of course, I'm leaning toward our boys, but we have to produce the numbers to get the prize. Better yet, end all discussion by taking a cue from the Giants: The D-Line that puts a SB Ring on your finger wins the 'who's best' argument.

I clicked on the article to check out the updated comments and lol at the Dolphins fans. They will have a good defensive line but they have no business trying to rank them at the top of the league. The Rams, Jets, and Bills have way more depth. They add Suh and all of a sudden their d-line can't be messed with.

3-4 Defensive fronts are not really comparable to 4-3 defensive fronts I think they have to be compared separately. Rams and Bills probably are probably the two best 4-3 defensive lines in the NFL.

Lawl. Not if we have anything to say about it. Also, the Bills no longer have the best defensive line in the game. They're moving to a 3-4...again. Jerry Hughes has always sucked in a 3-4, so nix him. Is Super Mario going to play end or OLB? Kyle Williams and Dareus are the only sure things on that line, aside from Super Mario.

As for the Jets, they don't really have a fit for Williams. They're running a 3-4. Harrison is a good run-stopping nose tackle, but he's not Marcell Dareus or Vince Wilfork.

In all honesty, I'm more scared of the Texans D-line than I am the Jets or Bills.

Bills think they can have the greatest defense ever

Confidence continues to pour out of Buffalo, as the arrival of Rex Ryan has made a major impact on the attitude of the Bills.

Multiple players on the Bills’ defense have said that they believe they can have the best defense in the history of the NFL this season.

We want to be the best in history — one of the greatest,” linebacker Nigel Bradham told theToronto Sun. “That’s what we’re striving for … the greatest of all time, not just this year or last year.”

Asked about the defense’s goal for the season, Marcell Dareus answered, “Best ever. It’s so obtainable. All we have to do is continue to do what we want, and not what we can. If we do what we want, and do everything to head in that direction, why can’t we? Why can’t we?”

Dareus has bought into everything that Ryan is selling.

“We finally have a coach who will really lay it on the line for us,” he said. “I mean, Rex will make the tough calls and really put us in the position to win, regardless of whatever the stakes are. And he’s not going to be buddy-buddy. He’s like, ‘You’re a grown man and I’m going to tell it to you like it is.’ And that’s what we all need.

We’re all grown men. To have somebody babying us, or somebody trying to micro-manage us — I mean, no man really wants to ever be under somebody’s thumb all the time. Rex is just that type of guy where he’s going to let you play ball, he’s going to put you in the best situations, and he’s going to do his best not to let you fail.”

Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams echoed those sentiments.

“Yeah, I think big goals and big dreams produce pretty great things,” Williams said. “And if you’re not willing to put yourself out there and be held accountable to that, you’ll just be happy with any results that you get. That’s not what we want. We want to be the best.”

The Bills had one of the NFL’s best defenses last year and should have one of the NFL’s best defenses this year, too. But best ever? That’s a title often given to the 1985 Bears Defense coached by Rex’s father, Buddy Ryan. The Bills have a long way to go before they’re in that company.

I'd say that while sane people might argue about whose front four is the best, there isn't any question in my mind that we have potentially the best D-line. Fairley/Brockers (who ever you think won't be the starter), Hayes, Sims and even Westbrooks would make a decent 1st string on many teams and they're our backup/rotational players.
