I know what you are thinking. I’m nuts, based on the last few games.

But when you compare units and the injuries in the playoffs, I think this offense is better.

QB -same guy. A few years older
RB - Kyren is better than Akers
WR - by the SB they had one guy walking in Kupp. Now they have Nacua, a slower Kupp and Robinson/Atwell
Ol - overall it’s a better unit.
TE - same guy but was injured in SB

That 2021 defense was very good, especially when Weddle got involved and Von shored up the edge.

I think it's a factor of two.

Teams have had three years of tape of Stafford's/mcvays tendencies
Stafford is two years older at the end of his career, not saying it's much of a factor because Stafford has always been streaky

Oh and don't forget we have different coaches in the offensive room. And I personally do not think they are as talented as the 21 staff.

RB is definitely the biggest difference between 2021 & 2024. Akers was shit. Williams is excellent.

QB Stafford seems to not quite be as hungry as he was in 2021. But if the protections are good he will ball I am sure.

OL had far better protections in 2021. The run blocking is better though this year.

Overall this year I'd say we are less explosive in the pass game, but far stronger in the run game/balance (assuming OL can stay healthy and we have our starting 5).

QB - The older guy has slightly declined from 2021.
RB - Agreed. Kyren is better than Akers.
WR - The 2021 WR room is superior. Both Kupp and OBJ were threats that scared opposing defenses. Now we have one guy in Nacua who is a comparable threat. A slower Kupp is still good but not two consistent threats like 2021. Robinson/Atwell are JAGS.
Ol - Agreed. I like this OL better overall.
TE - Same guy, but older and coming off of injury which makes it likely he's declined from 2021.

Overall, right now, I'd say 4 out of 5 units were better in 2021. The one exception is at RB, where Williams is a giant upgrade over Akers. The other units, I'd give edge to 2021:

QB: Stafford had more spring to his step in 2021.

WR: OBJ was a quality option and only was out for 2nd half of SB. And 2021 Kupp was playing out of his mind.

OL: overall I'd give slight edge to 2021 because of the tackles. Alaric is solid but Whit was elite. And 2021 Hav was better than the older and banged up Hav of 2024. Interior OL, though, I'd give slight edge to 2024.

TE: 2021 Higbee was solid, whereas now he's just coming back from major injury.

Having said all that... this 2024 offense COULD go on a tear. But they're not YET firing on all cylinders the way the 2021 team did in the stretch run. Hav and Higbee have to heal up and help Avila and Dotson mash in the run game. And most importantly, I believe Stafford and Kupp still have greatness left in them. But they're gonna have to summon up some of the old magic.

My two cents. The current O-line might not be better in pass protection, but this line is better at run blocking. How many times in 2021 did Stafford or a running back get stuffed trying to convert a 3rd and 1 or a 4th and 1. In the NFCCG the Rams turned the ball over on downs because Stafford couldn't convert a 4th and 1 QB sneak. This season, those short yardage conversions and almost automatic.

I don’t think Tutu a jag when ever hes called upon he produces… I wouldn’t be surprised to see tutu get 800 to 1000 with a different team next year…kupp should be used less in passing game and give more targets to tutu and robinson

Let's see Jimmy G run this offense. I expect Corum to have a monster game. Kupp is slower for sure. The Kupp/Stafford combo in 21 was magic. When the wheels were coming off against Tampa Kupp and Stafford just turned it on for two big completions to end the game. Both those guys are now trending down a bit. Still Kupp has almost as many targets as Nacua and twice as many TD's. I think Kupp will show up in the playoffs along with Stafford, but this is their last rodeo together.

Nailed It!

Seriously though, I think it’s much more nuanced than simply comparing talent at individual levels and position groups.

One team may have more talent on an individual level, and/or at a specific position but the overall Offense of the less talented team may be better.

Right place, Right time, Right circumstances all add up to a lot of Rights.

And, on top of that, there is the whole you’re kind of “Nuts” thing.

Personnel-wise it’s better now. I think the league has copied McVay and Shanahan enough to have caught up a bit though.

Player for player might be slightly better this year. But in 2021 Kupp was unstoppable. Puka is good but ain't 2021 Kupp. The 2021 playoff defense was very good. This defense is questionable. Some very good games and some very bad games. We still don't know what we have.

I honestly thought they were better in 2023 than they are this year.....at least offensively.

To me the jury is still out on this 2024 team, they have grown and developed since the start of the season especially on defense. I look for the backups on offense today to showcase their abilities. This is their opportunity to shine, I expect they will take that to heart. Lastly the Rams are playing the hated Seahawks in L.A. what a better way to end the season then to send those bitches home crying.
