After we lost Jenkins to the giants I have seen alot of "experts" saying that the rams will go hard in the draft after a corner. I personally don't think we need to. Maybe grab one late but not in the first 3 rounds. Not trying to make this a draft thing just throwing that in there. My question is with the tag of tru, ej Gaines coming back from injury, Joyner playing well last year plus lots of playing time for Roberson (who kept getting better imo) does anyone worry about our CB situation?

I am always worried about CB or any DBs, especially when you lose the talent we have. Yes we have some talent to cushion the blow but you never know the effects of Jenkins and McLeod till you see how other coaches attack. Was Johnson real good last year because of Jenkins? Will they target the other corner next year? Will we have to help the other corner with S help?

Worried? no. Concerned about depth? yes.

It's probably a safe bet that Tru and Gaines will start on the outside with Joyner at nickel back. I know people seem to think Joyner will go to FS but the Rams really liked him at nickel last season and he exceled at it after a rough rookie season. However, Joyner isn't big enough to man the outside spot so he can't be counted on for depth behind Tru and Gaines. Roberson had some rough patches filling in but was ok... I'd be scared if he had to man a starting position for an extended period of time but he might be ok. Either way, Roberson is really all we got backing up the edges so we do need to bring a couple more players in for competition in camp and keep at least one for season.

There are a lot of Coaches in the League, including Fisher, who believe, and rightly so, that you can NEVER have too many CB's or Safeties on hand!! I agree completely with them!
Even though our Depth is pretty good, we should always be on the look-out to improve it! But that should apply to all positions on the roster!

The big four ....Johnson- Gaines- Roberson- Joyner all young, all have started, none of which are a Tye Hill or Justin King like. Fisher is always up for drafting a CB. He has drafted 6 in his first 3 Ram drafts.

One of things that Mark Barron added brought new to the defense in 2015 was the use of Barron/McDonald/Alexander (3 big safeties look) into his Nickle defense package. Gregg used this often until McDonald went IR. Gregg does not just use CB's in his nickle/dime defenses. So the need for 6 CB's as in the past may not be there. We all were freaked out last yr when they went with just four CB's remember??? They also like this new kid Patterson drafted by the Colts last yr.

As long as Gaines is 100% healthy I'm good and I expect the Rams to draft Kevon Seymour, Defensive Back, USC.

im not so worried about CB so much as long as out front four (seven) still manage to consistent pressue on the QB ..a good pass rush can hide a multitude of sins at DB ... wouldn't mind another gem in the later rounds though

I'm hoping they look at someone by the third.

I think they can go DT, RB, DE, then start looking.

Its just my opinion here but IF I were Snead I am not taking any chances... I be drafting a pass rushing specialist extraordinaire ! We have absolutely NO need of standard LDE or a 3 technique DT. Rams are pack full of them.

A defensive player that might come out of nowhere & get major looks in TC & pre season @ RDE is a tweener named Zack Hodges! If he could put the heat on the QB's he would fit in here real good.

I agree but i'm kinda on the QB or bust draft wagon myself .....but I do agree some insurance would be good...the good thing about pass rush specialist they usually available in the later rounds right ?

Like Fishers Jevon Kearse, he is from UF very lean tall lanky & very very much a pass rush specialist.

But UNlike Kearse,McCalister is a serious bad boy:heh:.

I'm concerned about everything right now..

Obviously we're all concerned about the offense.

On defense, we lost or cut players at DE, LB, S and CB - the other starters at those positions that we'll be counting on in 2016 - were all suffered season ending injuries last year (Quinn, Tree, McDonald, Gaines). I'm concerned about CB because TruJo and Gaines now both have extensive injury histories relative to their experience. If durability is the most important ability, Jenkins should have been franchised. TJ Mc has also been injured two of his three seasons thus far. And if we were to lose Quinn or Tree again, our defense would plummet.

So yes, I'm very concerned. The fact that we could spend our entire draft on defense is very bad considering how awful our offense was last year.

I believe that we are in fine shape at starting CB.

But more depth is needed because injuries are inevitable during the season.

However, one thing is for damned sure. Fisher and GZ know this better than we do. We can rest assured that the CB and S positions will be restocked somehow this offseason.

I agree with others. LDE is our glaring remaining need on D. But Fisher and GZ are way ahead of us on that, I'm certain.

My only real concern is the Lys-Franc injury to Gaines. That isn't usually the type of injury that you just get over. It could easily have long term affects that may keep him from being as productive as he was in the past.

I do think that Fisher/Snead have a good eye for UDFAs and late rounders, especially at DB. If they need depth players they will find them IMO.
