I’ve never been in the 15 years we’ve lived in central Florida, so for my birthday, my mom flew in my sister and husband and we made it happen

House is almost ready to list so we can move to MN, so this is the last break for a bit…

Anyway, Hollywood Studios today, main park tomorrow and Epcot day after them home

Anyway, I’m so thankful the entire fam stepped up as my birthday isn’t typically a big deal

You're not a man unless you start bawling at a fireworks show at Disney.

Multiple times bc it's Christmas season.

They have a huge tableau projected onto the Tower of Terror and they blow fake snow into the air (it’s actually lil bubbles that look convincingly like snow until you look really closely) it was very cool

Happy B Day!

Hey, out of curiosity, why are you moving away from Florida? Anything in particular and where did you live? Curious, because I'm debating about moving there within the next few years.

I hope you like fucking cold weather because it can get into the negatives up there
I’ve lived in PA before, so I’m no stranger to winter and yeah, I’m the rare bird that does

Happy B Day!

Hey, out of curiosity, why are you moving away from Florida? Anything in particular and where did you live? Curious, because I'm debating about moving there within the next few years.

1) always hot.

2) in the last 10 years, it’s gotten noticeably less friendly. Road rage is at an all time high (reminds me of LA in the late 80s, it’s that bad) and between vacationers and snowbirds, they all come down and behave like everyone living here works solely for their happiness.

3) the homeowners insurance situation here is obnoxious. In 3 years many have gone from $1700/yr premiums to over $7k/yr premiums with no end in sight including my mom.

4) the HOAs here are enough to drive someone to lose their minds. People on them with nothing else to do, but fuss about the smallest bullshit while failing to handle the big stuff which is what the HOA is supposed to handle. Some HOAs even have board members measuring the grass length…

There’s other stuff that I can’t really get into in this board, but yeah… it’s only getting more expensive and the conservatives that run the state are more interested in fighting “woke” than actually doing their jobs like actual hurricane preparedness, fixing the insurance catastrophe, and improving the schools which having put four kids through them… they NEED improving badly.

Not saying don’t move here, but just know it’s way more expensive than it used to be and there’s no relief in sight so if you do make the move, plan accordingly

So Hollywood Studios was amazing and the Magic Kingdom was so full of nostalgia, it was great …. And the Tron ride was awesome.

EPCOT today and then home tonight.

I barely walk 400 steps a day and I put in 10k the first day and 14k the second… my feet are BARKING!!! LOL

Been an amazing trip for sure.

I absolutely hate the cold. I have always liked hot weather.

However, above 90 and humid sucks and over 100 and dry heat sucks.

I played golf in 116 degree weather in Las Vegas and that was a bit much. Only lasted 9 holes not being used to that type of heat.

Happy Birthday Mac !

I'm guessing you took the kids and grandkids? Sounds like you enjoyed it and that's cool.

My parents took me to DW soon after it opened. Back then you had to purchase a book of ticket things to get on the rides. Times have changed from back then... lol.

While I appreciate DW for being a big reason we don't have State income taxes here... that's about all I like it for. I took my sons a few times of course, but I really don't enjoy being around tourists. I would stay in one of the wilderness cabins to make things easier. You have your own little house basically and you're away from the mobs... and you also have parking for your car and a small kitchen plus an outside grill. You can get to all the parks and back to the cabin by just taking the free boat rides. It allowed me to bring big coolers loaded with supplies and avoid paying Disney prices for some meals. I also snuck alcohol into the parks to help me deal with the mobs of tourists/children.

I have friends and one relative who I refer to as Disney nerds. They are adults and are completely addicted to Disney. My nerd local friends go at least twice a month... but they go for the special events usually done at epcot. My brother's wife though... she goes like she is still a child. I don't get it at all, but it fascinates me. I will admit that Disney does things top notch if you know what you're looking for... but I just stay away from Disney and all the other parks too. I do believe that everyone should see Disney World at least once though.

Hey... and for my SoCal Bruddas... Disney Land doesn't really compare... especially in size.

Mac... you live down in like Tampa/St Pete or Sarasota I thought? I don't really think that is or should be considered Central Florida. That area is like a world of it's own... especially for the snowbirds. We don't have anywhere near the number of those annoying sumbitches here in O-Town. And that damn Gulf of Mexico is like a magnet for the storms that have been a huge reason for the insurance price increases. The prices are higher here too, but the costs are higher the closer you are to the coasts.

Hope you enjoy Minnesota. The people I know from there are a lot of fun... and they all seem to be huge drinkers. I think it's because they have to spend a lot of time indoors during the winters lol. They do talk weird though... but in a funny kinda way. They will definitely be more friendly and down to earth compared to the melting pot of transplants over in the Tampa West coast area.

Good luck with the move my Brudda.

almost all of my Dads side of the family lives in Orlando and has forever - so growing up - at just about any given time I had several relatives working at Disney.

One year my aunt took us underground - there are tunnels underneath just about all of everything. I think I was like 9-10. Seeing Snow White smoking a cigarette is a sight these eyes will never forget.

Funny. We were at Disneyland when I was a kid for fireman's night and we somehow stumbled upon the employee break area. Here is pluto, mini mouse, Donald, and several other characters with their heads off sitting around smoking. It was quite the WTF experience as an 8 year old.

My wife has a vacation curse that seems to follow us everywhere we go. We’ve a ton of stories of things going wrong. We are known for it here in town. Some are worse than others but, the Disney trip was the absolute worst of all.

My in-laws lived in Orlando and had season passes every year. They mostly went for the food and atmosphere. They loved Disney. My father-in-law got a job there because he liked it so much.

They moved back home to PA and then one day talked us into taking the kids down. I didn’t want to. It was too expensive, but I lost the argument and we went. We drove all the way to D.C. to get a plane. I have no idea why they picked an airport five hours away. My infant daughter got very sick at the hotel in D.C. She was shitting and puking unbelievable amounts everywhere. She destroyed the bed in the middle of the night. We got through the plane ride and while waiting to board the Disney bus, she had diarrhea all over herself and her stroller. What a mess.

So we get to our room in the French quarter. It’s November and we had plans to go to the gulf for a day. We brought shorts and T-Shirts. That week the temps dropped into the low sixties!

Then on the first day we headed to the magic Kingdom and my son pukes all over the sidewalk, it got on people’s shoes. It was instantaneous and uncontrollable. So, I took him back to the room. Two hours later the rest of them return because my step-son got sick waiting in line for one of the rides. The next morning my wife was sick. Then my father-in-law got it worse than all of them. I spent two days in the room taking care of the kids and my wife. We were doing laundry non stop for a few days. The kids got better, so I was able to take them back to the park. But it was very cold for shorts and tees, so we spent a bunch of money on sweat pants and sweat shirts with the Disney and Mickey Mouse logos on them, at the shops. We looked like 100% Disney goobers. We did get three days to use our passes. My kids barely remember any of it now.

What a waste of $5000.00. Even if we were all well and it was warm outside, it still was overpriced imo. The best part of the entire trip was the great food and when we went to Universal studios, away from Disney. My kids loved it there. We could have flown down and spent a day or two there, maybe a day at Disney then flown home for so much less.

Welp, we survived.

Had a great time, super sore feet and came back with a cold (at least I hope so, the C19 test came back negative)

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes, it means a lot.

That's nuts. Especially if you go Allegiant out of Harrisburg. Small airport - don't have to deal with the crowds like the DC airports.

Sounds like you had a rough trip. And I love Universal compared to Disney.

Disney is usually overcrowded (this year was weird where it wasn't nearly as crowded).

And I love going to Universal's Halloween nights. They have some great houses for it.

I really liked the Killer Clowns and Ghostbuster ones.
