I would hope its goodbye to G-String and his likely contract demands. Saves us some coin we could use for some free agents to shore up some positions.
I think McVay alluded to just this - someone asked a question in the presser today and he said "it's probably not necessary now going this route" which I'm sure was related to Jimmy coming back. The questions are hard to hear, Jourdan asked it I think.

So, drafting Simpson, is that the absolute nail in the coffin of Jimmy G, Stetson? Or both….
Jimmy G for sure, McVay said Simpson would be competing with Stetson for the backup spot. And now, with the ability to carry an emergency QB on the roster, I imagine we'll hang onto Stetson regardless of that outcome.

I hope Jimmy G returns for one season, And seriously, he would get a shot (a real shot) at a ring. I have my doubts that Bennett or Simpson can carry the Rams to the promised land if Stafford got injured. Good thing Stafford is tough as nails.

Seriously, you watch the SB 56 game winning drive, not many QBs could have pulled that off.

Jimmy's probably gone now. McVay said Simpson would compete with Bennett for backup. So we'll get to see if Bennett has learned anything in his run on the depth chart. Rams obviously didn't want to just trust in Bennett without at least challenging him. And they probably expect Simpson to win.

This makes preseason games entertaining at the least.

And it's not just the Rams in that equation. The FA period spoke some truth to him as well.
I would have to think that Jimmy G is still in play in Pitt if Rogers doesn't come back. He would also be in play if there is an injury. I think he is holding out for bigger $$$ and the chance to start somewhere.

Maybe so. But when you're a QB of his age and the FA window passes without an offer to so much as QB2... I don't know that waiting for a QB1 role is realistic for him. Which is probably why we're hearing rumors of retirement.

Still a real chance the Cardinals could roll the dice. They desperately need a quarterback, and all of the others in this class are a real roll of the dice, and they need damn near everything.

We'll see. But again I think people forget the extent to which Jimmy relied on short passes and screens in that one game he started for us. Seems to me like he just doesn't have the juice any more to push that envelope, the give-a-fuck, whatever you want to call it.

This is why I didn't see him as an important re-signing this offseason. He's all name at this point.

I dont see where JG is an upgrade to Mason Rudolph

Jimmy G played in a SB and was a pretty good QB but for injuries. Mason Rudolph never sniffed playoff success. I've never thought much of Rudolph. JAG and nothing more than a backup IMO .

Garoppolo played in a Superbowl 8 years ago, hasnt been a starter in 4 seasons when he was awful
Rudolph is a JAG, but no more or less than JG and he at least is accustomed to the players there

I forgot that Jimmy G already has 2 rings as Brady's backup. So getting another ring as Stafford's backup might not have much appeal to him at this point, although he's likely miles ahead of Stetson or Simpson
