There have been some questionable draft choices but this has to go down as Snead and McVey's biggest miss! He sacked Tom Brady in the Super Bowl after an impressive rookie season in which he was dealing with the loss of his son. It would turn out to be his last tackle as a Ram...

Jets coach Robert Saleh described Franklin-Myers as “a stud"... “He hasn’t even scratched the surface of where we think he can go within the system,” Saleh said of Franklin-Myers, whom he likened to San Francisco 49ers defensive end Arik Armstead.

He was right! Franklin-Myers is now one of the most dominant 3-4 DEs in the game against run and pass!

Jets fans just voted him the 8th most important player on the team

Maybe he wasn't doing what was expected of him after his rookie year. Could have been coasting a bit and not being mature... Then being waived may have woke him up. You don't know, but that kind of thing happens all the time.

"Disastrously Wrong" seems like a little bit of a stretch but Franklin-Myers has turned into a solid DL.

I live in NYC and the teams I see the most are the Rams (thank you God for Sunday Ticket), the Jets and Giants.

But Myers-Franklin's strong-play did not happen immediately. He was released by the Rams in their final cuts for 2019 and was picked-up by the Jets. He did not play a snap in 2019. On the roster, then went on IR, then designated to return but was not activated. In 2020, he was a reserve/rotational player, starting two games.

Early in this past season, Franklin-Myers looked great and was rewarded with a big contract (4 years / $55M).

I agree with Philly's thought above. Given his play and how he was used, releasing Franklin-Myers was very surprising to me; and I wondered at the time if the Rams were frustrated by his attitude and/or effort and decided to move-on.

It's just a guess but McVay does not tolerate bull-shit ... poor or selfish attitude, lack-of-effort, .etc
(Jackson this year). However, the Rams are patient with talent. They keep talented young players on the roster to extend their development (Joseph-Day as a rookie and Hopkins the past two seasons are examples).
Would love to know what the deal was on John Franklin-Myers.

I liked JFM, I was disappointed we let him go because I thought he had good potential. Remember being told here he was a jag after talking him up after the Vikings game I think it was in 2018. But it's not like we were devoid of talent at that position and it was a numbers game at the time. It's unfortunate we wouldn't find a way to keep him but it's not like it hurt us and that type of thing happens to every team all the time. Not like we cut a 1st team all pro or anything. So meh, whatever.

Not buying the whole premise.

He is not one of the best or most dominant DLs in the game.

And Saleh’s comment is nothing more than coach speak. They obviously hope he is going to get better.

Very simple it's called scheme fit. In LA he was a an OLB in NY he's a DE. If you bothered to watch him he's limited in terms of scheme in the same way Dante Fowler was. He was released simply because he was nothing special in this defense.

John Franklin-Myers is a 6-4/292 lb 43 defense Lineman. Jets play a 43 D. Rams were well into the 34 D by the spring of 2018 fresh off their SB loss. Just before the Rams drafted JF-M he was up to 300 lbs. I am sure he was drafted for the purpose to back up Micheal Brockers in that 34 DE post. In Preseason JF-M did play the Brockers post.

The Rams DL was thick with veterans ( 4 first rd picks) in JF-M rookie season. Brockers/ Donald/ Westbrooks/ Suh/ Jospeph-Day/ Earley/ Longacre & Morgan Fox were the DL cadre when TC began. It became evident very early in TC the Rams were short on OLB/ER's.

DC Phillips moved DE Fox & Longacre to OLB'er posts. Fox tore up his knee resulting in being IR'd for the entire season. DC Phillips designated Matt Longacre as the starter opposite Samson Ebukam as his OLB'ers. Justin Lawler, Ejuan Price & Trevan Young were the backups, Og Okoronkwo was on the IR with a broken foot.

Rams had JF-M's trim down lbs to work some on the edge @ OLB'er as a relief as they found out that OLB'ers rookies Price & Young were not NFL material. Matt Longacre was not much better. Things went south early in 2018 from bad to horrible @ OLB'er. This is when Snead traded for ER Dante Fowler Jr. to start the rest of the season @ OLB'er with Ebukam. Matt Longacre only started 7 gms & was moved to back both OLB'er posts.

JF-M's did get in on numerous snaps in his rookie season but by 2019 TC something was really wrong with him & his effort was :crap:in TC & preseason & appeared that he did not want to be a Ram. John Franklin-Myers was waived during the final roster cuts on August 31, 2019. Morgan Fox soundly beat out JF-M for that DL position.

I agree, it was a disaster.

We've done nothing since we let this hall-of-famer go.

I think we need to re-evaluate McVay and Snead because they clearly don't understand talent if they can make a franchise-killing fuck up like this.

I just ordered my 9ers jersey.

Fuck the Rams and their never-ending fuck ups.

Go Kyle (never made a fuck up in his life) Shanahan!

8th most important player on a crappy team is not saying much.
This is an excellent point.

I see a lot of Jets' football here in NY, and I can't think of many quality / "more-important" players.

Quinnen Williams ... Yes

"More-important" ... Wilson, Moore, disappointing-LT Becton ... OK
