I won't try and link any vids, but suffice it to say, it was BRUTAL.

Holm owned Rousey in the first round and the high kick to the neck in the second round literally knocked Rousey unconscious. She was asleep when she hit the canvas and Holm got in 3 hammerfists before the ref pulled Holm away.

I'm just gonna say this. What little I saw let me say this (I wasn't feeling well enough to see the fight, but a friend I roll with gave me some insight)...

This just verifies my feelings that the notions that Rousey was so uber dominant that no female stood a chance was nonsense, especially Cris Cyborg. Cyborg is a seasoned veteran and just recently lost a grueling 5 round World Championship Kickboxing match with one of the best women kickboxers ever. She didn't just last, she took her the distance and made it close in a discipline that wasn't her primary discipline. And Cris Cyborg isn't supposed to be able to compete with Rousey? Huh?

If anything, this just goes to show that there was just TOO MUCH hype surrounding Rousey. She IS an amazing fighter. Not was...IS. That said, NO fighter in MMA stays undefeated, not even Anderson Silva who really was the best MMA has ever seen.

This makes a rematch amazing and now, more than ever, it makes Cyborg getting down to 135 now really important because with Holly Holm, there's a trio of women to fight, a quartet if you include Meisha Taint.

The women's division just got fantastically interesting and for all the right reasons.

Congrats to Holly Holm for her stunning victory!!!

I'm sad, but what a knockout. Just a perfect kick and Ronda didn't even see it coming. But yeah, everyone loses eventually(cough, cheatriots). It was a good match.

I'm glad because it really opens up the division. That and it showed what an amateur striker Rousey was... good grief...

Chael Sonnen made a good point, that wrestlers do a better job of take downs from a distance. Judo takedowns require already being in the grasp. As it stands right now and as of 2009, I think the Int'l Judo competition rules forbid 1 and 2 leg takedowns.

Bottom line is that Rhonda Rousey has some learnin' to do. She needs to train with some WRESTLERS on takedowns from a distance rather than just relying on her world class judo because there specifically is a world class boxer who has tremendous takedown defense and can scramble. As it stands now, if there's a rematch in 90 or 120 days, Rhonda Rousey gets WAXED just as badly then as tonight.

Man it's one thing that she lost but Holm took her apart.

I think Rousey is a warrior and is too focused on silencing her critics. She was focused on winning with stand up IMO and got crushed by superior skills.

Man, the rematch is gonna be huge

I'm glad.. Rousey got too caught up in her emotions. You could see it at the weigh ins. Total role reversal.. Holm was completely calm and Rousey was the one getting all flustered and talking shit just like Correa did to her and then got knocked out :ROFLMAO:

Rousey's stand up is trash but she just kept chasing Holly around recklessly trying to get the knockout and played right into Holly's gameplan.. it was pretty awesome to see her get destroyed

Really wish I knew a place to make bets though. With those odds that was one of the easiest bets you could make.. even if you just threw down $10 on Holm you made $80-100

She should have asked Mayweather to train her on striking instead of saying how she could beat him lol. She was getting rocked all night

Enter conspiracy theory here. I didn't see the fight - just a clip of the knockout. But my first thought was that there was all the talk that there was no one left for Rousey to fight except maybe going against some men. I watched Holly's last fight and came away less than impressed. It seemed she fought like a girl. Conspiracy or not, this elevates two and possibly three other fighters in this weight class and suddenly it is not a matter of which one Rhonda takes out in the first 30 seconds but becomes a weight class that now has top contenders.

All that said, I can't wait to watch the fight on replay and congrats to Holly. I don't want to take anything away from her in all my whacked out theories. I'm just posing this for fun. Gotta say though, I was stunned when I heard the news. I just didn't think it was possible for a chick to beat Rousey until she lost a step.

There will certainly be a rematch and I will bet anyone that Rousey ends it quickly. I smell a ROD Sportsbook bet.

A fun debate is always going to be , who would win between a boxer and a Karate / Kick-Boxers,

Well on this day , a boxer beat the crap out of a Karate / Kick-Boxer

Rousey is more of a wrestler. Don't get me wrong. I used to box and have always considered boxing the more true sport. I like watching MMA but there is a reason none of these fighters go 30-0. It's just a brutal blood match and a sneaky elbow can take even the most talented fighter out. Rules are the great equalizer and they allow talent and skill to win out over luck and brutality.

Both boxing and MMA are fighting sports but not really comparable.

No way it's a conspiracy.
Rousey took an absolute beating.
To me it has the look of Tyson/Holyfield where the matchup is terrible for RR and can't get anything done.
Ronda wanted to win with stand up IMO. And after a couple kicks to the head she realized she made a tragic mistake

As someone who picked Buster Douglas over Mike Tyson (I did it when I read in Frank DeFord's paper that Greg Page knocked Tyson either down or out in sparring and while it was only a small blurb 3 weeks before the fight, as someone who'd followed Tyson since his earliest days I knew Buster Douglas was his kryptonite. Far from home fighting a guy who'd just lost his mom with a trip hammer jab... yeah, it was time)

Anyway, this fight had all the same smells.

I didn't pick the fight because I didn't have any chance to really get into the camps or spend time watching Holm, but Holly Holm was an 18 time World Boxing Champion, one of the best women boxing champs of at least our generation and she's legit.

If you watch her striking, she's a southpaw and her straight lefts are textbook and her footwork is outstanding. So much so that she was able to also become a world kickboxing champion.

Of all of her KOs, only one of them have come from the hands. All of the rest came from kicks which are devastatingly hard and accurate. As Rhonda Rousey found out.

When you watch this fight, you'll see that Holly Holm's strikes are powerful, accurate and damaging. Better yet, she actually had answers for Rousey's Judo. She escaped an armbar and when Rousey tried a hip throw, Holm instead lowered her hips and suplexed her which is WHAT YOU SHOULD DO!

Holm dismantled Rousey and if they have a quick rematch which I hope they do, Holly Holm WILL DISPATCH HER QUICKLY AGAIN because the manner in which she took her out was a matter of skill.

If Rousey was smart and also if she wasn't the darling of the UFC, she'd fight another fight and spend time working on her wrestling takedowns which are different from Judo takedowns. Judo takedowns START from the grasp. Wrestling takedowns can start from being yards apart. Rousey could never close the distance and until she can find a way to get Holm into a sustained ground game, that fight won't ever really be a fight.

Right now, the best fight in women's MMA doesn't involve Rhonda Rousey. It's Holly Holm v Cris Cyborg. Based on total skills across multiple disciplines, THAT's the best fight.

Studied Kenpo for over ten years. My instructor always had us work on our boxing skills before practicing kicks. Knowing how to move your feet, slipping punches, bobbing and weaving, throwing punches in combinations, etc. came in handy during our Wednesday night free-for-alls when students from other schools came to spar. Those not trained in boxing skills always did poorly. This fight we're discussing reminded me of that.

On the parts of your post I underlined........

She did move well and was landing hard punches from lots of different angles. She was moving and sizing up RR who was sort of pawing at the air. Watch the fight again and watch how HH times the punches she threw with RR arm movement and she moved her hands. And HH can counterpunch, RR cannot.

Also HH kept her hands up, RR while doing that pawing motion kept letting her hands drop.

I'd bet that all of her KO's that come from kicks come this same way as last night. She dazes the opponent with crisp punches from all over and some well placed kicks until the opponent is essentially beaten and then she waits for the opening to finish with a kick.

You may not know this but the big reason Tyson lost to Douglas was that he only trained for a few weeks and didn't even warm up in the locker room before the fight. He was over confident. Watch the fight if you can find it, he was gassed early, he wasn't in shape at all.

He was Don King'd. As a long time boxing fan, I absolutely hate what that guy did to boxers and the sweet science itself.

King screwed Tyson so badly it was sad, embarrassing actually. But Tyson lost that fight all on his own.

Don King is a POS of a human and should still be serving time for the two murders he committed.

It's telling that essentially all of the fighters, venues, and other promoters have sued him for ripping them off.......

Completely agree on all account. Nothing against Holm but Rousey is a beast.

I think Rousey bought into her own hype. She's back down to earth now, and will go own dominating.

She's got a spot in my heart for being a gamer girl. She's a cool ass chick.
