29. San Francisco 49ers

Key subtractions: Jim Harbaugh (coach), Justin Smith (DL), Chris Culliver (CB), Frank Gore (RB), Michael Crabtree (WR), Mike Iupati (OL), Perrish Cox (CB), Patrick Willis (LB), Chris Borland (LB)

One thing to know: Nobody had a worse off-season than San Francisco. They're now in full rebuilding mode.

I saw it a few hours ago. I thought it was interesting they have us at 10.
High accolades for our defense.

Whatis a business journal doing writing about the NFL? Did some sports writer wannabe beg the editor to let him do it? Or are the trying to draw attention to their site?

I like that someone is noticing the Rams but reading the first three did not inspire me to go further. The Seahawks only sacrificed depth o attain Jimmy Graham? The Packers only key acquisition was a first round pick? and it is a wildly successful strategy? What? Wildly?

The Patriots lose Revis, Wilfork and Vereen and Brady for 4 games and they stay in third?

What do you expect it's the media and they finished the top of the league last year. I'm a firm believe in if you want to be the champ you got to beat the champ, week 1 we get our shot!

I agree. I guess my point was if a guy writes like that, then why write.

Okay, I am a homer and all... But seriously when looking at other teams they all have issues.

Ours might be uncertainty on the OL or Foles... Or whatever... But I am really liking our team this year.

While it is enjoyable seeing SF rated that lowly I don't buy it.
Losing Crabtree was offset by signing Smith. Does anyone think their D is going to fall to bottom of the league? I don't. They were playing street FAs last year and finished in the top 10. Granted, the losses this offseason came mostly in the front seven which was the strength of their D.
I don't they are going to be that bad, but, I hope I am wrong.
If the Rams can avoid the traditional slow start....which is a big if given the schedule and an O line that is probably going to have multiple rookies starting....then a playoff run is very doable.

They also lost both starting corners. I say they don't end up top 15 this year. The defense especially took a beating this off-season. Downgraded at linebacker, downgraded at corner and down graded at d tackle. I don't see how they can sustain at top 10 defence like that.

10. St. Louis Rams

2014 DVOA rank:
18th

Key additions: Nick Foles (QB), Nick Fairley (DT), Todd Gurley (rookie, RB)

Key subtractions: Sam Bradford (QB), Zac Stacy (RB)

One thing to know: The defense is so good that even a league-average performance out of Foles would put them in line for a playoff spot.

You may very well be right....I hope you are. However, I don't think their CBs were that good anyway....thus, when they were signing street FAs to play DB for them they did not have a measurable drop off that was huge.
Justin Smith and losing the two LBs are huge. As we are all aware Aldon Smith is not the same pashrusher without Justin Smith out there creating holes for him.
Glenn Dorsey, Docket, Bowman, A. Smith....the Whiners still have some players up front. The real keys may be Bowman and Docket. Can Docket play up to his old level and can Bowman come back to his pre injury level. If so, they can probably be a solid D. If not, or if the injury bug bites it will be a long season in the urinal by the bay.

This is one ranking I hope they're right on. The Rams ranked 10th and the 49ers 29th. I'm not sure the 49ers will end up that low but I believe they're going to finish last in the division. I'd be surprised if they win more than 6.

With our defense, the offense doesn't have to be great. Or even good. Mediocre should be enough. Last year they weren't even that. All Foles has to do is take care of the ball and make plays that are there to be made. Hill and Davis didn't have the arm to do that enough.

Absolutely!

There are only two issues on the table for the Rams as I see it:
1] The offense (too many unknowns to mention here... and they've all been laid oput before numerous times)
2] The defense starting off slow

If the offense can be, as you say, just mediocre and the defense comes out stout from game one, then this team will surprise a lot of poeple!

Damn that word... if...
