Report: Greg Hardy arrested for drug possession

Former Panthers and Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy has been arrested for drug possession.

NBC 5 in Dallas is reporting that Hardy was arrested in the Dallas suburb of Richardson on Sunday for possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Richardson City Jail, where he remained as of Monday afternoon.

There is no immediate word on the substance Hardy possessed, or any information about the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

Hardy was once among the best pass rushers in the NFL, but after the Ray Rice domestic violence incident put the NFL under intense scrutiny, Hardy became toxic for his own past domestic violence arrest. Although charges against Hardy were eventually dropped, he never played for the Panthers again after the Rice elevator video became public.

In 2015 he signed with the Cowboys, but this year no team has shown any interest in him. He was already a long shot to return to the NFL even if he stayed on his best behavior, and a drug arrest could end any hope he had of playing in the NFL again.

Greg Hardy indicted for felony cocaine possession

Gone from the NFL but hardly forgotten by those who follow the support, former NFL defensive end Greg Hardy likely won’t be back in the league, ever.

Via TMZ, Hardy has been indicted on one count of felony possession of a controlled substance after a September 25 arrest. He allegedly had 0.7 grams of cocaine in his wallet, which police detected after pulling him over for turning without signaling.

He faces up to two years in prison if convicted.

It previously was reported that Hardy claimed the cocaine wasn’t his, and that it had been placed in his wallet the prior evening, after he passed the wallert around at a party, because he was paying for others with him.

Shunned by the NFL, this latest predicament won’t cause his phone to ring down the stretch, especially since he faces a suspension without pay under the substance-abuse policy. As one league source recently told PFT, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wanted to bring Hardy back for 2016, but he was talked out of it by others in the organization.

Less than 1 gram - State jail felony - Up to 2 years in prison and $10,000

Cocaine is classified as one of the most dangerous controlled substances under Texas law. This is due to its high potential for abuse and addictive nature. Because of this, the penalties you face are high.

Under Texas law, the penalty you face for cocaine possession is directly dependent on the amount of the drug you are caught with.

Man, if you want to get your money and then run at least stick to pot or something. But cocaine, guy is self destruction incarnate. It's a shame cause he had the talent to become one of the highest paid defensive players in the NFL if he simply kept his nose clean. Hate seeing people waste away like that for no reason.

For less than a gram 10K and two years is a bit much. That seems like the penalty for distribution, not minor possession.

If it's a state jail felony, it's really not hard to get probation, unless it's like your 3rd felony. Source: I'm on probation for 2 of them (weed) . It's crazy how you think you know someone until THEY get in trouble and can't man up.
