My wife and I did not take our honeymoon in August when we got married, because we knew we wanted to go to New Zealand and it would be winter there. We're going to Middle Earth for two weeks and then Fiji for around 5 days then coming back. I'm actually leaving on Sunday so I won't get to see the worst Superbowl ever.
I probably won't be around much during that time. I'll come back when we return
Just seeing your post today, so it looks like I missed you. But if by chance you're able to check-in on this thread before you get to Fiji, then I highly recommend staying a few days in the Yasawa Island group. You can get there by sea plan from Nadi A/P, which is where you'll be landing. It's the most pristine part of the Fijian Islands, and the natives there have owned their own islands for generations. All of the Fijian kids there have travelled to offshore university, but typically return because it's so beautiful. So, they're all very well educated, and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet in your lifetimes.
This is where Turtle Island Resort is located, which is one of the most exclusive resorts in the world. The guy that runs the resort is an American and an asshole, and he leases the land from the local natives who put up with him. So, i wouldn't recommend staying there, as it's probably at least $1,500/nt, and I think he demans a 1-wk stay. But you can shack-up with any of the natives, as many has small bungalows that they've built and rent out for around $20/nt. It may not be the Ritz, but the beach and water and fishing could be some of the best you've ever experienced. And the native wil take you out scuba fishing and catch whatever you want for dinner.
Anyway, I really hope that you see this note before you make it to Fiji. I wouldn't invest much time in Nadi or Suva or the main island, as there is so much more in the outer islands to explore.
Good luck. You'll love it and the people. Ta!
