New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford likely got some motors running when he compared the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterbacks to automobiles during a radio interview Friday.

Appearing on the "Boomer and Carton Show" on WFAN, Weatherford turned the key on this season's NFC East rivalry by taking verbal jabs at Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez and Sam Bradford.

Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez are battling to be the starting quarterback for the Eagles, but Giants punter Steve Weatherford made known his criticism of the two. Bill Streicher/USA TODAY Sports
"I'm gonna give you a Ferrari [Bradford] that maybe won't be running all the time, or I'm giving you a nice Cadillac sedan [Sanchez]," Weatherford said. "It's not the fastest but you know what you're going to get out of it. Bradford can go from zero to 60 in three seconds, but you don't know if he's gonna start up some days."

The Eagles acquired Bradford this offseason in a trade with the St. Louis Rams. He hasn't played since October 2013 because of injuries and is entering the final year of his contract that will pay him $12.95 million this season.

"Chip Kelly will get himself in serious trouble if they get an extension for that guy," Weatherford said. "And [if] he gets hurt? He's done."

Sanchez, who went 4-4 for the Eagles last season, will also compete for the starting quarterback position with Bradford.

As for Tebow, who was signed this offseason but hasn't played in a regular-season game since 2012, Weatherford started down the right road before stepping on the accelerator.

"I'm the biggest Tim Tebow fan in the world," Weatherford said. "I mean, who wouldn't want their daughter to date a guy like that? I'll tell you what, I don't want him taking snaps for my team."

Sounds fair.

"Chip Kelly will get himself in serious trouble if they get an extension for that guy,"

Exactly why I would have taken a 2nd for him, He could have an elite season and I wouldn't want to give him guaranteed money.

Sounds about right about Bradford. But Sanchez isn't even a Cadillac he's more like a ford escort lol

I think it's a pretty clever comparison. I wouldn't put it past Hekker to say something similar.

Pretty funny that you've discussed Bradford with us and now he's in your division. How do you feel about him? You think he's better then Foles? You would know better then most I would think.

No. Foles is better. The eagles quarterback situation is very questionable. I really don't understand why everyone jocks chip Kelly's offense, either. Many of their points came from special teams and defense. Man, I can't wait for football!

After being called out by Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce for comments he made on a New York radio station Friday, New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford took to the Philadelphia airwaves Monday to do damage control.

In an appearance on WFAN in New York, Weatherford critiqued Chip Kelly's overhaul of his quarterback roster. Kelly traded for oft-injured Sam Bradford and signed Tim Tebow as a free agent.

"I'm the biggest Tim Tebow fan in the world," Weatherford told WFAN. "I mean, who wouldn't want their daughter to date a guy like that? I'll tell you what, I don't want him taking snaps for my team."

Brief history of strange kicker/punter moments
Steve Weatherford isn't the first punter or kicker to draw attention for something besides booting footballs. We revisit the "idiot kicker," the ax mishap and other kicking fraternity weirdness.

Meanwhile, Weatherford compared Bradford to a sports car and Mark Sanchez to a more reliable model.

"I'm going to give you a Ferrari that maybe won't be running all the time, or I'm giving you a nice Cadillac sedan," Weatherford said. "It's not the fastest, but you know what you're going to get out of it. Bradford can go zero to 60 in three seconds. But you don't know if he's going to start up some days."

When Weatherford was asked about the possibility of Bradford getting a contract extension, he went a step further.

"Good luck with that," Weatherford said. "Chip Kelly will get himself in serious trouble if they get an extension for that guy and he gets hurt? He's done."

Kelce took to Twitter on Monday to respond.

"Of course a player who is literally not allowed to be touched is talking s---," Kelce wrote. "Is interviewing punters a thing now?"

Weatherford responded first on Twitter.

Did u even read the my quotes? Or did u generate ur opinion based upon the headline? (Continued)

Ur smarter than that don't let some1 tell u your opinion. I was complimentary of all 3 QBs. Nothing but respect.

A few minutes later, Weatherford appeared on 97.5 The Fanatic to explain.

"When you have a quarterback like Eli Manning, a two-time Super Bowl champion, I'm going to prefer that he take the snaps for my team than Tim Tebow," Weatherford said. "That's not a shot saying Tim is not good at quarterback. I think it's pretty factual that Eli Manning is better. I gave the guy the greatest compliment that you can ever give anyone, that you would let them date your daughter."

Weatherford called Bradford "incredibly talented" but said the quarterback's injury history has to be accounted for when discussing him. As for Sanchez, he called his former New York Jets teammate "rock solid," citing the two trips he made to the AFC Championship Game with the quarterback starting for the team.

The outspoken punter also clarified his comments on Kelly.

"I'm not saying your job is in trouble, but that is a guy you are expecting to be the future of your franchise, the same way it would be if you give a guy a long-term extension and then he ends up injured," he said. "It could happen to anybody. I'm not saying Chip Kelly's job security would be in trouble. I'm just saying if you invest that much money, that much cap space into a franchise quarterback and he's not on the field, then you're in trouble."

Weatherford said he was invited to appear on WFAN to promote an anti-animal cruelty organization.

"I do feel that a lot of things that I've said ... I don't want to say that they were taken out of context, but they were received not in the fashion that I wanted them to be received," Weatherford said. "I've got so much respect for the guys that play actual play football, it's unbelievable."

I watched Foles , just about every game and I will take him in a heartbeat. I am in the Philly area. Saw the Rams/ Eagles last year and the Eagles/ Cards 2 years ago. This year is Penn St/ Temple Owls. I am only 45 min away from the Linc. I am so glad we got Foles. I hope Bradford well. I will be seeing him play often too/ still/ maybe/ if he plays.
