Apparently, the Bengals rookie third round wide receiver, Jermaine Burton, is not travelling with the team. Coach's decision.

Considering the disciplinary issues he had at Alabama, it's not a very good sign.

Could you imagine screwing up so bad, that they tell you you can't come to the game with the team? Sounds like he might be getting cut.

Considering that there were reports about him sleeping through team meetings in preseason and considering he skipped a walkthrough, got healthy scratched, and pissed off his teammates because of it? (And his response - three simultaneous times - to various differing questions was "Gotta be better.")

Before anyone corrects me about the former, yeah, that much was said by the announcers of the first Bengals game (Al Michaels said, "Yeah, don't sleep through meetings, right?" after Kirk Herbstreit said, "Just a matter of being really bought into the system and being disciplined and being a pro. That’s the one question I think with him."). Burton responded, and I quote him verbatim: "I don’t even know. I don’t know where that came from. I was confused myself," but in the same interview also said: "I could’ve been better in how I’ve been handling my business in my preseason. I could lock in more on my details and the things that I did wrong, but it’s all about how you handle it. It’s all about what it means to you, and I feel like I need to do a better job of showing how much this means to me."

So, yeah, denies he slept through meetings, but admits that he tuned them and his team out. Yeah, I could imagine him getting cut very, very soon. He already had disciplinary actions at Alabama. He's already punched multiple fans (including a woman) when they went onto the field when he was a member of the Crimson Tide. He already had serious laziness issues at Alabama.

So, yeah, definitely cut, and while another team would likely take a chance on him, it's going to be with some serious caveats.

It's really the Bengals fault, then. He did the same things in college, so why would a team draft him if they knew these things? Even more damning is if their research was so bad that they didn't know about his bad habits and attitude before drafting him. At the NFL level, it's almost impossible to rehabilitate guys like this, with a few admitted exceptions.

Exactly. I didn't want Burton, nor did I want Javon Baker (Cheatriots, formerly UCF Golden Knights and also formerly an Alabama Crimson Tide receiver with serious character issues) because of whom they seemed to be as people, and it's biting both teams in the ass (Baker got arrested for blocking traffic at Logan Airport in Massachusetts in September, and now these issues with Burton).

My choices for receivers early were the Washington receivers, Ja'Lynn Polk and Jalen McMillan, who went to the Cheatriots and Buccaneers, respectively; Whittington was my choice late. All had impeccable character.

I hope we pay attention to the same things that drew us to Kupp, Nacua, and Whittington, only with a true X-receiver threat.

I really want the Bengals to get into the playoffs.
Could make things interesting.

@Memento
I was watching former NFL Scout Bryan Broaddus on youtube awhile back state that there might be some off the field concerns with your guy Luther Burden III. What's the scoop?

None to my knowledge. He may have displayed a bit of diva qualities (a couple of unsportsmanlike penalties and jawing during games) last year, but he's conducted himself with nothing short of class for Drinkwitz's squad off the field. No suspensions, no discipline, nothing to note, and we'd know if he was, given that he's the big man on campus.

I'm not saying this just because I like Burden. I'm not saying this because he's a Mizzou guy. I'm saying this because there hasn't been any off-the-field concerns to my knowledge, not even disciplinary measures. Of course, Drink runs a tight ship, but to my knowledge, I don't know where the off-the-field concerns come from, aside from on-the-field diva shit - and if McVay could tolerate Marcus Peters, he sure as shit could tolerate Burden.

Makes you glad that the Rams choose players of meeting the McSnead standard of "loving football" and the recent AD standard of "really caring."

(.... arrested for blocking traffic at Logan Airport in Massachusetts in September...)
Been to Logan too many times in my life.
Blocking traffic there seems more like a rite of passsage, than a crime! :eyeroll:

Burton was evicted(attempted)from his apartment but he refused to leave and apparently he did 10,000 dollars worth of damage. I read yesterday that some major news is getting ready to break about him but that was on Tik Tok, they named a source but I can't remember the name.

Yep, that's a red flag.

Still got arrested and fined for it, and had character concerns at Alabama that kept him in Saban's doghouse.

If the Brownies were even a competitive football team this wouldn't be such a yawner. Best for the Ravens to pile on the points and rest starters in the 4th. I wouldn't want any leg injury to hamper the future MVP in the playoffs.

Cincy's offense looks great. Burrows and his receivers will eat the Steelers alive...
