Getting ready to head out to todays practice. Only scheduled for an hour.
Some reflections on yesterday's practice, almost all 11 on 11 plays were run out of 11 personnel with someone in motion.
Earnest Jones and Boston Scott were invisible, don't recall either on the field yesterday.

Will post notes on todays TC later.

I'm curious how Verse and Fiske are doing. I know its hard to gauge anything until they put on the pads. Someone tweeted Fiske was a handful.

Fiske is a handful! Verse seems to be everything we had hoped for. I sense some good pass rush coming our way. BTW, actually saw Verse drop into coverage on a couple of plays and others he was playing the contain role so it seems he is getting the playbook down plus, he is very quick off the ball.

Fiske seems so strong. Avila was doing his best and it was a toss up on who won the battle on which play. Also Fiske didn't let up once a screen was thrown, he turned and tried to run down the receiver from behind. Didn't get there but he tried and I liked that. He also faced a couple of double teams so he was able to occupy space and was still in position incase of a run play.

Check out my photos, lots to see between the O and D lines. Zooming in helps.

I can't wait for the Kingpin and the Last Verse to do one of their stunts. Imagine them and the Conductor and Agent Zero on the field at the same time.

Just got done dealing with LAX traffic on the 405. Had to stop for flaming shrimp tacos and a Belgian White at Taco Beach before I got home.
Nice day at LMU. Stands were full. Players only on the field hour and a half. First half stretching and calisthenics. For the next hour+ til the end of Practice it was all walk throughs. First off injury updates. Kobie Turner was on the field with no sign of injury. He was in with 1st team D on almost every series the ones were in. No Darious Williams. I'm guessing he's getting evaluated. Not a good sign they are already signing FA's. Notable absence, Big Rob Havenstien (prolly just getting rest), Boston Scott not with RB Group and not involved in scrimmages.
Today was all about walk-throughs. The first team offense worked over an hour with McVay on mostly run plays. AL AJackson, Jackson, Avila Dotson and Noteboom filling in for Big Rob tool all the snaps. Defense was 1st and 2nd teams alternating versus the O first team. the rest of the team was on the baseball field behind the stands where fans aren;t allowed so I have no clue what they were doing for an hour +.
McVay and OL, DL coaches did a lot of coaching. Between snaps McVay had O huddled around him with a lot of gesticulating. I'm guessing about running lanes, and trap schemes. D coaches coaching how to counter. No contact and no passes. everyone in shorts and ball caps.
I really liked what I was seeing, a lot of attention to detail. McVay was really into coaching. He's not wasting any time getting this offense ready for the Lions.
a lot of emphasis running the ball
1st team DL: Mostly Byron Young LDE, Kobe Turner RDT, Bobby Brown NT, Fiske LDT and Verse RDE. Some changes, like Hoecht being thrown in there at DT or Brennen Jackson at LDE.I like what I';m seeing from this DL. OL seems to have their hands full.
2nd team DL: Mostly Brennon Jackson LDE, Hoecht LDT, Tyler Davis NT, Cory DurdenRDT and Anthony Goodlow trading off at RDE.

can't say anyone stood out with walk throughs. Whats notable is not what I'm seeing, but what I''m not seeing. No Hampton,Mathis, Murchison, VanvalkenburgSpeightd, or Kier Thomas. Been here only 2 days so lets see what happens tomorrow.
Rumor is Pads go on Tuesday. I can;t really form any opinion on players til I see them in pads.

Not much else I can think of. Hope this is enough. I always feel like I should have posted more. Anyway VetRamFan and I will be hooking up for the Saturday practice. I like what I'm seeing so far.

Time for that next beer.

PS--SnackDaddy. Verse is just what was advertised. Quick and strong. Same with Fiske. He's being moved along the DL, and Verse has lined up on both sides, but mainly RDE,.

Oh, shush. Kobie Turner's nickname is literally "The Conductor" and has been since college, and Fiske being named "The Kingpin" is fucking perfect. Chef's. Fucking. Kiss. I admit, I need to find a good nickname for Verse, but I did the best with what I was given.

Great write-ups so far. Thanks gentleman.

If you can, please toss in some details regarding kick-off returns. With the new rules, maybe you guys might make some interesting observations of them!

When every player has a nickname, it can water-down the positive impact of a good one.

Plus, it's really difficult to come-up with a good nickname ... as evidenced by this thread.
