Do you good folks think Simms & Florio rehearsed this debate about Aaron Donald prior to discussing it on their show?

They argued, fussed and debated about their opinions of why or why not Donald will or will not try to get every single penny he can with his next contract extension.

Did they think this would be a clever offseason drama debate to garner some offseason interest?

I'm leaning it wasn't rehearsed.
And unlike a lot of (most?) people, don't have a problem with Simms, or Florio either for that matter.

On the idiot meter, with Bayless at 10, Florio's about a 2-3, imo.

Chris's dad, otth, I cannot listen to.

It seemed a bit selfish and egotistical to make the conversation about them, largely. I really do enjoy the banter though. This felt real to me. Chris was clearly pissed off.

That was a good debate. Let's not pretend that the Rams aren't paying him very well already. I know he deserves a little more. I hope he takes it easy on the Rams cap numbers. This could take a while to get done. AD's reps played it tough last time.

It will be interesting how the Rams extend his deal with 3 years remaining on with the following cap hits.

$26,750,000
$23,500,000
$23,500,000

Aaron Donald signed a 6 year, $135,000,000 contract with the Los Angeles Rams, including a $40,000,000 signing bonus, $86,892,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $22,500,000. In 2022, Donald will earn a base salary of $9,250,000 and a roster bonus of $5,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $26,750,000 and a dead cap value of $26,500,000.

No way that was rehearsed lmao..you think Simms is Daniel Day Lewis or what?? :laugh4:

Just a genuine disagreement and Simms has spent a lot of time in LA with McVay and the Rams so he would know the type of dude AD is over Foolio. Obviously AD wants his raise and he will get it, but I agree he wont want to handcuff us to the point where we cant sign guys like Bobby Wagner, Von Miller, etc.

Can't be easy to have to listen to Florio pontificate all the time. No football credentials at all, but always claims to know what everyone in football is thinking.

I have no love for Simms but he's far more likely to understand the player point of view.

here's the context; when these talking heads go into their pre production meeting, they discuss what the topics will be and who will make a case for each side. Many times, they don't even believe their slant but they have to offer a different angle to make the show interesting. How many clicks or shares are they getting if they all agree that AD is not retiring?

Florio doesn't seem to understand that Donald has right now been paid $97.1M over his career. Aaron has $26M guaranteed remaining on this contract. That guaranteed money is the starting point right now. They might re-do his contract so that he plays 3 more years and it's all guaranteed. They can lower his cap this year knowing the cap will increase next year and that increase is expected to be substantial. So what he lowers this year will simply be spread over the following two. This way the team isn't left with a crippling dead cap when he retires in 3 years. The contract probably will be in the $85-$95M range basically doubling what he has made in total the previous 4 years.

AD will never be poor, his kids will never be poor. He could easily live off just the interest alone. Anyway thats how I think it will play out.

There was a long ass article on Donald's retirement posted elsewhere on the forum. In that article Donald said he held off on signing the extension because he didn't want to play for a losing team his whole career. I don't think his side played it tough and I don't think he was holding out for a better contact. I believe, based on what he said and his passion to be the greatest, that he wanted to see the Rams become a winner before he committed. By that I mean I don't think they even talked, really talked, until after 2017. He had no interest in talking to loser ass Fisher teams. McVay comes in, turns everything around, gets us into the playoffs, and that's when Donald wanted have a real discussion about staying.

Lol. I vote for "definitely not rehearsed." Looks like they genuinely pissed each other off. It happens.

Lol not rehearsed imo. I think simms just got little heated in the moment that florio attacked him for the selfish comment even though that wasn’t really what he meant. Even tried to take it back, and rightfully so. As a player I’m sure he doesn’t think ppl are actually selfish taking the most money they can get, but leaving money on the table is what most would consider unselfish for the team and the opposite of that just happens to be selfish

Well I’m curious what he gets paid ?

He will make good advertising money though.

If it was anyone other than AD looking for more cash already after signing his big deal they would be traded. But greatness can change the rules.

Personally I don't like it. Not much you can do about it though. If they put him on the market he would need to like where he goes or he can threaten retirement and queer the deal.

I know this won't be popular either but if this contract redo keeps dragging at some point maybe I talk to the Steelers about sending him to his backyard. Rams are one of those teams who might be able to capitalize on picks and come out of it in good shape.

I love AD, but there is definitely a version of this where Snead says "bring on them picks!"

AD asks for $40 million a year guaranteed over the next four years, and someone offer the Rams a bunch of decent picks. Snead may turn it down, but he's certainly not just hanging up the phone.

Rams need to keep him and at a salary that allows them to maneuver....when he retires, Stan can pay him a "consultant" fee....
