INDIANAPOLIS • Rams coach Jeff Fisher said he made the decision not to bring back Gregg Williams “well before the season ended.”

Without Williams because of his “Bountygate” suspension for the entire 2012 season, the Rams’ defense changed its personality from the heavy-blitzing style of Williams. And Fisher was happy with the results.

“We just felt like we wanted this to be the ‘Ram’ defense, so we’re moving in a little different direction from what Gregg’s philosophies are," Fisher said.

Fisher said he hasn’t spoken with Williams since his reinstatement, which basically coincided with his hiring as senior defensive assistant for the Tennessee Titans.

“I’m happy that it worked out the way it did,” said Fisher, who has known Williams for a long time. “I think Gregg can help the Titans, and help Coach (Mike) Munchak and of course (defensive coordinator) Jerry Gray. The other side of that is that they can help him to re-establish himself back in the league.”
