Cuz Looney was taken? Why exactly is it called the Rooney rule anyway?
Cuz Looney was taken? Why exactly is it called the Rooney rule anyway?
I have a hard time believing its about race - and I think the rooney rule is more of an insult because a lot of times they're interviewing candidates who don't have a legit shot because they don't have the same accolades/credentials as people they're going up against, and it just ends up being a waste of their time
That may be the first decent point I've seen on the subject.it's not a waste of time. it gives them the chance to go through the interview process and be better prepared next time they have a chance for a hc gig.
.
Ok, well let's play devils advocate...so now the same lower level coach that is white doesn't get the interview practice.it's not a waste of time. it gives them the chance to go through the interview process and be better prepared next time they have a chance for a hc gig.
.
I believe it is after the Rooney family. Why exactly is it called the Rooney rule anyway?

Right, but what does the Rooney family have to do with racial equality in HC hiring?I believe it is after the Rooney family.
The rule is named for Dan Rooney, the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the chairman of the league's diversity committee, and indirectly the Rooney family in general, due to the Steelers' long history of giving African Americans opportunities to serve in team leadership roles.
