Finnegan’s comments ruffle Rams’ feathers
Posted by Mike Florio

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/06/25/finnegans-comments-ruffle-rams-feathers/

Former Rams cornerback Cortland Finnegan recently gave the team the figurative Andre Johnson treatment, taking a few verbal swings at the coaching staff and schemes. And like Andre Johnson, the Rams are swinging back at Finnegan, albeit privately.

Finnegan called the team’s defensive approach in 2013 “atrocious,” adding that former defensive coordinator Tim Walton was “in over [his] head” and that the defense struggled from “game plan to technique to fundamentals.”

A source with knowledge of the team’s thinking tells PFT that the problem with Finnegan had far less to do with the coaching or the schemes and far more to do with Finnegan.

Some believe the Rams actually played better without Finnegan, who eventually landed on injured reserve in November with a fracture of the orbital bone. We’re told that Finnegan initially tried to play with the injury and that, as he struggled, the injury became a crutch.

So he decided to have surgery, and the team placed him on IR. And, per the source, Finnegan never actually had surgery.

While Finnegan currently is saying all the right things in Miami, those who know him predict it’s simply a matter of time before he has issues with the coaching staff there — especially if he struggles and needs someone other than himself to blame for it.

I was about to post the same exact thing before I read your reply.

A source whose brother once washed the car of someone who knows a guy who knows a guy who has ESP.
C'mon MAN.

I think it's pretty clear that Finnegan's comments were specifically about Tim Walton and not the rest of the team.

To be honest. Not many fans were happy with the regression of our defense last year. I tend to agree with finnegan, but he should still leave his dirty laundry at home.

True. I don't think anyone's upset in as much as they're incredulous to the "source."

Exactly. He is right that Walton wasn't NFL ready and his schemes were unsuccessful to a large extent but he doesn't have to trash the dude to compensate for his own on-field issues. The Finnigan that showed up to play last year would have been terrible in any defensive scheme so he needs to share the blame instead of dish it.

CF has been mouthy his entire career, probably his entire life.

Nothing to see here.....

Of come on guys! Give old Cort a break. It's the only part of his game he has left. He's certainly not getting into my head and our D isn't falling for it either. Just read it and get a chuckle. It's harmless.

To me, letting Finnegan go, meant as much as anything that I've ever seen a Rams FO do, because I know Coach loved him. Meaning = This FO, Snead, Demoff, Fisher, Williams, etc, are all committed to doing something special with this team....Special.

Yeah, Cortland was right, but he also left himself open for this, especially because it was used more as a dodge for his own bad play more than just saying it was a bad scheme.

People are gonna take shots at you if you bring them up, no matter how casual if you're gonna use them as a fall guy.

The moment that sums up the play of the secondary is JJ thinking he had done something jumping waving his arms "incomplete"....while the WR is scoring.
Tool. All mouth, no results.

I agree with Finnegan about the defense not being fundamentally sound and that is a slam on the whole staff. I could see a few guys taking offense too, like Waufle because his unit played well. Chuck Cecil's unit on the otherhand didn't. To be honest I have been wondering why Cecil is so highly regarded. I haven't seen a well coached secondary since he got here. They always look undisciplined.

I hope Williams demand for accountability can help towards changing that weakness. I wonder what Greg would be saying the following Monday if JJ pulls another boner like fearsome alluded to.

Son the bus is out front. When you get done cleaning out your locker I want you to take your stuff and get on it. The bus will take you back to your hotel where you can contemplate a new line of work. I suggest you apply as an escort, I see a future in that field for you and I will happily give you a glowing endorsement.
Good luck kid ya coulda been somebody

Anytime I run across an article citing a vague source, I think it's a safe assumption that the reporter is pulling that information out of their ass. Too many stupid comments go unnoticed for any one in the media to respect someone's wishes to remain anonymous.

CF's lone legacy for me is how he started the ball rolling that validated the RG trade, if we'd lost that game the whole spin would have been different,so I'm grateful for that.
He declined and is now in denial of it, so what ,if we end up playing the Dolphins and he's still with them lets see him keep up with TA.

Well, the same could be said about Finnegan's play ... "atrocious". Finnegan leaving is the perfect example of addition by subtraction. I guess that goes for Walton too.
