Hey fellas been a while. I'm officially on leave for the holidays nearly finished with basic training and I just got my phone back about 10 minutes ago and have been completely cut off from the outside world and anything rams related. Obviously I see we're not doing well but I'd like some first hand input on a few things.

1) How has Jared Goff looked

2) what's the deal with Gurley? How has he looked? What's holding him back ? Regression ? Blocking ?

3) what about our defense ?

Goff has struggled a bit behind a bad oline. He's taken quite a few hits, but has shown nice pocket presence at times. He's also made some "wow" throws. Throws we haven't seen a Ram QB make in a long time. He hasn't been getting any help from our WR'S either. Can't tell you how many drive killing drops we've had. Way too many.

Gutley has had to deal with the same as Goff. Poor blocking.

Our defense is tired and worn down. They've managed to hold down some big defenses to lower scores than usual, but it's tough to keep teams like the Cheats, Saints and Falcons ro single digit scores. Our offense has failed them completely.

We need oline help in a bad way.

It's been an ugly season.

The offense looks like crap all the way around. The plays stink and the players seem to stink executing them. Goff looks like a rookie running for his life. Gurley hasn't had any room and gets bit more often in the backfield than not but he just doesn't look the same himself. He hasn't broken a big play yet this year.

The defense has their moments but the offense is killing them. The offense just can't sustain drives and eventually it catches up. They still make big hits and they still have dumb penalties - its business as usual.

The bright side is regime change. The LA job is hot - depending on what day it is - McDaniels, Gruden, Shanahan are the favorites but who knows. We just know it isn't Fisher.

Goff's season so far has been plagued by terrible wide receiver play and horrible o-line play. He has only thrown 2 interceptions that were his fault(1 was ripped from wr's hands, the other was completely his fault). He also has another 3 interceptions that have bounced off his wide receivers hands into opponents hands. He has a touchdown called back by horrible reffing. He's rushed for one touchdown on a QB zone read play. Having said all that, he's made some rookie mistakes but don't listen to the media or just look at the stats. He has completely handled himself fine. He has that competitive fire and toughness to a fault (concussion protocol because he didn't want to run out of bounds, wanted that extra yard against the Seahawks.)

Gurley has been inconsistent on down's. Sometimes he runs hard, other times he just quits behind the line(I blame the offensive line). Looks to have lost some strength also. Hasn't have a single 100 yard rushing game (mostly again o-line play.)

Defense has been great, but when they stay on the field too long they get tired and give up big plays (Secondary issues) and 1v1 tacking has been an issue. They also have struggled heavily against screen passing plays.

Hey, NJ, hope boot...er...basic has gone well for you and you're clear for your A school with no hitches. (That crap happens sometimes)

As for your questions...

Goff's looked like a rookie with promise...in a terrible offense. The good news about that is that all of the candidates for the HC position should have him playing significantly better next year.

Gurley seemed to have lost a little weight which he probably thought would help with speed, but only made him easier to tackle. He's also either missed some wide open holes or again, the scheme literally sent him to the wrong hole. I'm inclined to side with Gurley on this and expect a big bounce back year next year.

Our D has done well in many respects, but has had injuries and been burned by the blitzing nature of Williams' D. New Orleans in particular was pretty dialed in as was Atlanta.

I'm sorry it seemed like I was crapping in the punch bowl earlier and even sorrier I was right cuz it'd be a helluva lot more fun if Goff was having a Marino-esque season, leading this team to a Lombardi... Oh well.

Good news is that the Rams are poised to really bounce back next year.

And you know I wouldn't say it if I didn't think it was true.

Interesting, the Marine Corps is doing the same thing, they put all their guys on ACOG during bootcamp, they no longer teach iron sites... It's good to learn on them in my opinion, but you'll do that when you get to your unit I'm sure. At least with backups. Congrats on shooting expert as well, maybe sniper school will be in your future! It's a great school.

That's a good mindset, just kind of do what you do. Be ready for a piss test when you get back, and stay in shape. Do you know when you start doing some vehicle training? I think scouts will do some Bradley stuff, maybe Stykers, definitely some Humvee driving. I'm pretty sure you guys do some MK19 training as well (make sure the sear is in the right place when putting it back together).
