Fifteen undrafted rookies at Rams minicamp

The Rams are expected to have 24 rookies on the practice field Friday at their rookie minicamp, encompassing nine draft picks and 15 undrafted rookies. Add South Alabama cornerback Montell Garner and Bacone linebacker Keshaun Malone to our previous list of rookie free agents.

Garner comes from an athletic family. His father Milton played defensive back for Kansas (1984-87); his mother participated in track at Kansas State.

Malone is the second player from Bacone (in Muskogee, Okla.) to get a shot at a Rams roster spot in successive seasons. Defensive tackle Deantre Harlan, who was in Rams training camp last summer before going on to Winnipeg of the Canadian Football League, also attended Bacone.

Here's the confirmed list of Rams rookie free agents, which unofficially puts the team's roster at 88 players _ or two under the offseason limit:

Malcolm Brown RB 5-11, 224 Texas

Logged 2,678 career rushing yards, 27 TDs for Longhorns.

Imoan Claiborne CB 5-10, 193 Northwestern State (La.)

Senior Bowl invite had 3 INTs, 4 fumble recoveries in '14.

Rushed for 712 yards, 11 TDs last season.

Montell Garner CB 5-11, 188 South Alabama

Jacob Hagen S 6-2, 205 Liberty

Jay Hughes S 5-10, 194 Mississippi State

Zach Laskey FB 6-2, 225 Georgia Tech

Ranks 13th in school history with 2,033 career rushing yards.

Matt Longacre DE 6-3, 260 Northwest Missouri State

Cameron Lynch LB 6-0, 229 Syracuse

Louis Trinca-Pasat DT 6-1, 290 Iowa

Over 4 season's that's just over 7 sacks per season, quite meh for a defensive end.

Did he play four seasons? Most don't most likely he played three which puts the numbers much better, however, let's see that Mr. Longacre brings to the table because this is what is fun about training camp and pre-season watching these guys trying to make an NFL squad.

My notes are in red. I promise I said something and nothing at the same time. Seems like the do a good job of checking out the small schools and bringing in intriguing guys.
Jacob Hagen S 6-2, 205 Liberty
Intercepted 8 passes w/108 tackles, four forced fumbles in '14.
^Not so much a comment on Hagen but am I the only one that thinks Liberty University's name is at least a little bit ironic? I'm pretty sure they are very strict about what students can and cannot do. I'm not sure if it's true but I heard they can't watch R-Rated movies there.

Jay Hughes S 5-10, 194 Mississippi State
Team captain for Orange Bowl squad picked off 2 passes in '14.
^The Bulldogs always seem to have been producing a lot of NFL players out of their secondary. I'm not saying he makes the cut or anything like that.

Tyler Slavin WR 6-1, 201 New Mexico Highlands
Caught 119 passes for 1,418 yards and 17 TDs last season.
^ Impressive production

Darrell Williams OT 6-5, 301 South Florida
Had 29 starts at left tackle in college.
^This guy seems tiny compared to the offensive lineman that were drafted.

I have Mason Brodine. I think he is actually listed as a TE now but he was not a part of my 6 TE's Cook, Kendricks, Harkey, Bayer, Cunningham, and Smelly.

I like the overall body of work too. He got better each year and won defensive player of the year with over 10 TFL, 7 sacks, and 17 hurries. What stood out to me was in the article I linked in the other thread where his coach says he takes over games at key moments.

What I wonder about is where they'll try him. He has some speed for his size, would they give him a look at MLB as a depth chart option? Dudes like him definitely help on special teams where it's nice to have some big guys that hustle. He'll be a guy I watch for news on in camp, that's for sure.

The 40 time in the first link is impressive, but the numbers in the 2nd link from his pro-day are not so good. I read that he only started playing football at college when he moved from Jamaica, so he could still have plenty of upside to develop.

Highlights of University of Texas running back Malcolm Brown, who signed as an undrafted free agent with the St. Louis Rams after the 2015 NFL Draft. Does he have a shot at a roster spot?

Just curious on who other Rams Fans top 5 UDFA's are. As of now I would rate mine like this:
1) DT Louis Trinca-Past (Iowa) - Will not be at all surprised to see him make the Rams final roster!
2) CB Imoan Claiborne (Northwestern State) - Looks really good in coverage and pretty solid in tackling as well.
3) RB Malcolm Brown (Texas) - Looks to be a very aggressive runner always fighting for those extra yards!
4) S Jason Hagen (Liberty) - Excellent size and had a great senior year although it was not the best of competition.
5) LB Cameron Lynch (Syracuse) - Probably not the biggest LB out there but he sure looked passionate and aggressive
on the videoclips I have seen.

*My Darkhorse! WR Isiah Ferguson - 6'6 with pretty good speed! Played at a small school but it won't shock me if he
surprises some people and at least makes the Rams PS!
