Heard the term get bounced around. with a rotation of Long, Quinn, Donald, Fairley, Brockers plus Hayes and Sims. Could they break that Chicago record if the Rams offense could finally get ahead in games with at least an average Oline getting points and forcing passing downs against our D.

Quinn- 15
Donald- 11
Long- 8
Fairley- 7
Hayes- 5
Sims- 4
Brockers- 4
Ayers- 4
Ogletree- 3
Laurinaitis- 3
Barron- 3
McDonald- 3
Joyner- 2
Mcleod- 1

That's 73 sacks right there, the record is 72. Most of those guys have either hit or surpassed those numbers at some point in their career. Donald getting 11 sacks is easily conceivable considering he had 6 sacks in the last 7 games and was only getting better. So not outside the realm of possibility but everyone would have to play all the way up to their potential and we couldn't come out of the gate stumbling like last year.

Substitute the words 'fearsome fivesome' for 'sack city' and its 2014 all over again. And we all know how that started out.

IF the Rams can get ahead in most of their games then I think they have a pretty good shot at breaking the record. The Rams Defense should be Awesome and I think the Rams Offense should at least be much improved over the past couple of seasons so I definitely think the sack record is a possibility.

The key is that it is such a huge number. To get there Rams would have to sack q5 14% of opponents pass attempts which i a little more than 4-1/2 sacks a game.

Juts a 10 order. I'll take 60.

We need to play bump and run or teams will eat us up with quick short passes to negate the rush like some did last year.

He think he might have meant that nicknames like that can make them look pretty silly sometimes...I think maybe they ought to show something before the nicks start flowing...

And this.

I got caught up in the hype prior to last season. Not just about our defence but the team as a whole. I'm not making that mistake again. Until this team shows me it has the potential to win even 8 games (let alone make the play offs) I won't get myself too excited.

That's not to say I'm not cautiously optimistic because I do genuinely believe that the team is improving and will continue to do so. I just want some firm evidence.

Agree with all that you said. I was all "sack city" and then the team got one sack over the first 5 games or something. That was the day I realized that it'll be better for my health to stop putting too much hype into them until they execute.

I think Long will be back to double digit sack this year, after missing last year!!

I wasn't hyping the team and I wasn't the one who gave the nickname. I was simply asking about the plausibility of it with just having an average offense that can stay on the field to put the D in better situations. not backed up in there own 20 thanks to a Davis pick

The game has changed too much since the '80s when the Bears set the record ('85 team?). Offenses have adjusted to the high pressure DLs with quick passes and checkdowns, not to mention that teams are spending a lot more on the OLs to protect their QBs. That's what happened to start out last year, opposing Os making quick passes to avoid the #SackCity highlight reel.

Regardless, if the Rams D forces the other team into quick passes and checkdowns (which will continue) AND the Rams do a good job of defending these short routes and tackling the receivers, then mission accomplished. When defending a 3rd and 8, I'm just as happy with a 3 yard WR screen as I am with a sack.

Wasn't have a dig at you mate. Apologies if it came across that way.

I'd love nothing more than seeing our d line absolutely tear it up and the potential is definitely there

Before getting sacks, we have to consistently stop the run. Got pretty good at it last year, but the first 5 weeks or so we were dead last. That can't happen again.
