The contract extension for defensive end Eugene Sims pays him $4 million over three years, including $500,000 in guaranteed money. But incentive clauses in the deal can nearly double the value of the contract over its duration.

According to league sources, plus information filed with the NFL Players Association, Sims’ contract includes over $1 million per year in incentives achievable in each of the three years of the extension, which was signed over Labor Day weekend. If the incentives, which are tied to playing time, are met in all three years Sims will make $7.5 million over the course of the contract.

In addition, if Sims meets certain incentives in the deal, he can void the contract after year two _ or after the 2014 season.

The contract is structured in a way that saves the Rams $400,000 in much-needed cap room for the 2013 season.

As stated in a previous post here earlier this week I really like what DL'er Eugene Sims brings to this Ram defense. He is just as good playing the interior as Sims is playing outside. Sims can play any down @ any of the DL positions on any of the many different type DL fronts. Guess that would make him VERSATILE?

I am glad that Snead, Fisher, Walton, Waufle & Simmons all liked what he brings too. Sims was the last piece of the puzzle that had yet to be placed in in Contract terms...

Rams now have all nine of their DL'ers under contract for the next two seasons. That's when interior DL'ers Cudjo & Conrath will be UFA's in 2015.

Rams have current starters Long, Langford, Brockers & Quinn locked in for the next 3 seasons. Same as with Hayes , Rivers & now with Eugene Sims too.

............AGE....UFA YR...AVG.Salary
Long.........28...2017... 12 mil
Hayes.......28....2016... 3.5 mil
Langford... 27...2016... 6 mil
Sims........ 27... 2016... 1.5 mil
Cudjo...... 26... 2015.... 900K
Conrath... 26... 2015.... 484K
Quinn...... 23... 2016.... 2.4 mil
Rivers...... 23... 2016... 496K
Brockers... 22... 2016... 2.4 mil

When you look at the cost of these DL'ers sure looks like Langford needs to get his game day performance up a tad bit with the others.

I found this article about our newest DL'er Gerald Rivers & found it to be a good read on him. I sure like what i see in this UDFA from the deep south. I expect some big sacks from him in his cameo appearances off of some of the unsuspecting OT's misjudging Rivers speed & power.
