W2W4 revisited: St. Louis Rams
By Nick Wagoner

LANDOVER, Md. -- Looking back at three things to watch from the St. Louis Rams' 24-0 victory against the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon:

1. Keep it simple: The statistic speaks for itself: Don't turn the ball over and you have a great chance to win. Take it away while not giving it up and those chances improve even more. The Rams proved both to be true again Sunday, getting a pair of interceptions off Washington quarterback Colt McCoy and not coughing one up themselves. They are now 4-0 on the season when they don't have a turnover and are also undefeated when they have had a positive turnover margin. They did manage to get lucky a couple of times when they coughed up fumbles but they were aware enough to recover them and prevent Washington from taking advantage. They also narrowly missed a couple of fumble recoveries of their own.

2. Pass rush production: The Rams' anemic start to pass rushing seems like a distant memory now. They had just one sack in the first six weeks, a league record for futility in that category through a team's first five games. But they have 34 of them since, which is the most in the league in that time. On Sunday, the Rams got to McCoy six times and dropped Robert Griffin III for a seventh. They are getting home regularly with the blitz, bringing the heat on 22 Washington dropbacks and getting there for sacks on five of them. The defense is already firing on all cylinders but the past two weeks have offered a strong reminder of what this pass rush can do when its staked to an early lead.

3. Penalty prone: This is one area the Rams did not win. Actually, they were quite dreadful here. The Rams didn't do much wrong in this one other than a few missed kicks by Greg Zuerlein but they did find a way to rack up silly penalties. That's nothing new for a team that entered the game with the second most penalty yards in the league but many of Sunday's infractions were particularly maddening because they killed drives that were working. The Rams had 11 penalties for 98 yards, more than double the five Washington had which went for 51 yards. They were able to overcome it in part because of the two categories above but it's something that still plagues them with three weeks to go.
