He was one of the best CB's during his era. Good punt returner too. RIP LeRoy. Condolences to his family and friends.
Leroy attended a rival High School (Glenn Hills) in Augusta, GA and graduated the same year as I in 1976.
I thought it was so cool that an accomplished player like him was a member of my favorite team.
Prayers go out to all who loved and cherished him.

What a great guy, great player, and a staple of the Anaheim Rams. That 90 yard interception return at Dallas 83 playoffs was classic. Punt return touchdowns as well. Would get beat often but was a big play guy. I'll never forget during one of the football strikes Sports Illustrated had a piece of Leroy working in a service station, pumping gas and servicing cars. Great humble guy. One of our own
Most remember him as the terrific CB he was but he was also a damn good punt returner. Led the league in 1981 with a 13.4 avg. and 3 TDs. Had a 12.4 avg for 1981 & 1982 with 4 TDs. Dude was a player! Made All Pro in 1981. He had 5 pick 6's and 4 PR TD in his career. Awesome.

Most punt return yards in a single game, 207 in 1981 against the Falcons. Still an NFL record.

Leroy Irvin played with some Ram greats in the secondary, as well as with Jack Youngblood, Fred Dryer, Hacksaw Reynolds, Ferragamo and ED.

Hate to hear of his passing but he left some lasting memories for us Ram fans. That punt return record, 207 yards in returns against the Falcons, is going to be hard for anyone to top.
