Here's a story from 2013:
Eddie Murphy Dead? Actor Did Not Die in Snowboarding Accident
Eddie Murphy is dead. At least that's what the Internet is saying. However the comedic actor didn't die. He's just the victim of an Internet death hoax that won't seem to go away.
Many are coming across a news report saying that Murphy died in a snowboarding incident. Global Associated News, which is notorious for starting false celebrity death rumors, says "Actor Eddie Murphy is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today - September 8, 2013."
The site claims that Murphy died in a snowboarding incident at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland.
"Witnesses indicate that Eddie Murphy lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed. Eddie Murphy was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death."
Since there are so many details to the accident, it is easy to believe that it's real, but Global Associated News creates fake news reports.
A message at the bottom of the site reads: "FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes!"
Murphy is alive and well. He might not have been in the spotlight lately, but he's not dead. He recently contributed to Snoop Lion, formerly Snoop Dogg's new reggae track.
Despite the rumor being false, people who are coming across the report are taking the Twitter to mourn and question the loss of the actor. Some examples of tweets include:
"Yo, Eddie Murphy died. I'm about to cry...."
"I can't believe Eddie Murphy died today..."
"Eddie Murphy died ?! That is so sad to hear... #RIP"
"Eddie Murphy is dead!!?!?!
This isn't the first time the Internet has tried to kill off Murphy. This snowboarding death hoax has been going around for months. It popped up several times in 2012 and it was also going around in February and June of this year.
Murphy isn't the only celebrity to become the victim of a death hoax. Many celebrities have died in the same exact snowboarding incident. They include Adam Sandler, Denzel Washington, Jim Carrey, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger.
