#StarWarsTheLastJedi floored me. @rianjohnson and the team nail so much - thrills, laughs, heart and most of all, pushing the characters/overall franchise a major step forward. Some really rich material to explore in the future. Can't wait for more.

THE LAST JEDI has more goosebump moments than any Star Wars movie I can remember. I was grinning for most of the 2 and a half hours. A worthy and great Star Wars film. The franchise is in great hands. Kudos to @rianjohnson

#StarWars: The Last Jedi is so beautifully human, populist, funny, and surprising. I cried when one POC heroine got her moment because films like these leave their mark on entire generations -- and representation matters

There’s a scene in #StarWars #TheLastJedi that I keep playing over and over in my head, that is so stunning and unexpected that I don’t want to forget how I felt seeing it for the first time. This movie feels unlike any other Star Wars movie in all the ways I hoped.

Reading reviews that overwhelming kind of makes me think way way too much hype.
Might be great. Might be C+.
The best example was Million Dollar Baby.
So much hype. Hillary Swank was good in it.
The move itself. Ehhh. Forced story and a C+.

Jen Yamato is a C.

IDK who she is, moseyed on over to her twitter.

Bitchin about all the reaction when she brought up something that has nothing to do with freakin Star Wars.

Man, she got me triggered. I'm a brown dude and never ONCE growing up did I notice, let alone care, whether a hero or main character "represented" me. I liked Spider-Man b/c he's fuckin Spider-Man. Darth Vader wasn't popular b/c of whoeJames Earl Jones "represented", he was/is just an awesome character. Just SMDH.

Exactly.
I don't know who she is either.
But, know enough based on her review.
It's so disingenuous and transparent too.
So tired of the phony SJW toolbars trying to keep, the show off some ledger that have for moral superiority.

**********SPOILERS**********

But if you're coming to this thread and you haven't seen it yet I think you're asking for it.

So what did people think? I am as big of a Star Wars fan as there is... grew up with it, had the toys, read the books that they killed canon wise, play(ed) the games, etc. I kinda feel robbed by the movie. But at the same time I liked it. My mood changes day to day. I think I need to watch it again to appreciate the setups.

I think it would have been a lot better if The Force Awakens was also made by Rian Johnson. Because the two very conflicting styles and purpose of all the characters didn't really flow well from one to the other. JJ Abrams set up all of these story lines and characters and Rian just either ignored, smacked down to meaningless, or out right killed them off. It was kind of weird.

And all I wanted was one great, awesome, dazzling fight where Luke Skywalker just dominates everyone. And while we do get a really cool scene with him he doesn't really do anything. I liked the aspect of Luke realizing he was the legend that everyone needed. Sacrificing himself to become a legend and to invoke another uprising is inspiring but I wanted more Luke and less everyone else. I was hoping, with Fisher's passing, that Luke would survive this movie so they could do more with him in IX. Obviously, he will be a force ghost I'm sure but it won't be the same.

Leia was cool and I am crushed that Carrie Fisher died because I think they were setting up a really awesome storyline with her for Episode IX. The biggest disappointment is that it will never be made with her in it. Was super excited to see her actually use the force albeit briefly. It made that moment more poignant due to her actual death because when the bridge explodes I actually thought that's how they were bumping her off. But they didn't and I was happy for that.

One of the coolest scenes I've ever seen in a movie visually was the ship ramming at light speed. That was breathtaking and actually made me say "Whoa" out loud. Really cool.

Captain Phasma deserved more and better for the second movie in a row. Disappointed at her one scene. Finn and Rose's whole adventure seemed meh.

Overall, it was a good movie and I'd probably give it a B. I think they left out some potential really powerful, emotional moments that would have had fan boys like myself standing in cheering at the end. It could have been one of the greatest movie ever but falls just short in areas. And I think that's due to them having two movies written by two different people with two different visions. And Episode IX goes back to JJ Abrams which might make it even more weird. But will see. I do really like Rian Johnson's writing and love his direction. I am excited for him making his own trilogy that has nothing to do with the Skywalker saga or current storylines... hopefully in the Old Republic era. Those, I think, will be amazing movies.

didnt like it
the middle act killed it
Finn was practically useless and added nothing
worlds.slowest chase
merchandise driven disney fest
i like Drivers acting but Kylo is a whiney EMO brat
zero training for Rey and all of a sudden she is the last jedi ?

its a reset film ... i dont care they are "killing" off the skywalker legacy im excited for a new direction and story ...just hated the execution of the film ...it failed as a film.. majorly disappointed in the whole thing

At least they have reclining chairs in the theaters now that you can reserve ahead of time. That way you know where your seat is before you even get to the theater.

Plus... they're serving alcohol now too.

Saw this last night and I don't think I've ever been as irritated yet entertained by one film as I was by this.

Obviously this contains spoilers:

The bad:

The Finn storyline did nothing. Not only did it fail to add anything to the story (he and Rose failed to complete their task) but it included that stupid casino full of annoying characters and the Del Toro character who was also annoying.

Some of the "fun" characters were completely out of place at times. For example, on Jedi Island (whatever it was called), Rey is doing her training but those things that Luke described as "caretakers" were shoe-horned in which was jarring because it flew in the face of the seriousness of Rey's training.

Chewie was underused - he's a core character from the original trilogy and from Force Awakens yet his involvement was scaled right back in this film.

The good:

I enjoyed the interactions between Rey and Kylo Ren especially when they finally actually came together and killed Snoke and his Red Man Group. Kylo is an excellent character because you can see the flaws and conflict in him as plain as day and Hux (sp?) is so obviously keen to take advantage of that.

The scene with Kylo and Luke was good as it further exposed those flaws because Kylo didn't realise until the end that Luke wasn't actually there despite the fact he wasn't leaving any boot marks in the salt or whatever it was on the ground.

Laura Dern was hot and the scene where she destroyed Snoke's ship was brilliantly done. The lack of audio really added to it.

Summary:

Not as good as Force Awakens and definitely not as good as Rogue One* but worth a watch and I reckon I'll probably enjoy it more second time round.

*Felicity Jones (the actress that played Jyn Erso) went to the same school that my step daughter currently goes to. To my fellow Brits: if you want a job done properly (such as obtaining death star plans), get a Brummie to do it!

Man, I just can't go to the movies anymore. Every time, without fail, there's some asshat in the theater being loud. I think I told this story before, but I took my wife to see the Purple Rain re-release, and there were two other people in the whole theater. TWO. And those two bitches wouldn't shut the fuck up the whole time.

I'm totally with you on that. I rarely go to the theater anymore for the exact thing you experienced.

Plus... my screen and sound at home are so good now... why leave the house.

But the theaters are doing their best to try and reel us back in with the new reclining chairs, reserved seating, better screens and sound, AND ALCOHOL! So... for only a select few movies (like this one)... I'll wait for the huge crowds to die down and go see it at the theatre.

Without all these new changes by the theatres, I wouldn't even consider it though. People just don't know basic manners anymore it seems. Add in the fact that we're both becoming the old men screaming "Get Off My Lawn". LOL

Hahahahaha

I hadn't considered that. Bad news for the people not drinking. Those that do... we probably don't even notice the constant talking.
