I spend a lot of time watching the Eagles, as my GF is an Eagles fan. Here is my take from this matchup for us.

Eagles Defense is one of the Nastiest in the league when they are clicking. At first they thought this was going to be one of the worst with multiple rookies starting for them in Mitchell and Dejean. They will go up and lock down WRs even with thier safties. Blankenship is a INT problem we DEF have to watch out for.

Passing, they will not allow it. They are 2nd best def in the league when it comes to Passing. They have a near 70% win rate on Pass Plays.

They struggle on Offense at times so the Defense is used to being on the field. Passing is thier weak point, but will throw to Brown and Godert A lot. They Use 12 Personell A lot, Either two backs in Saquon, and Gainwell on run plays, or TE Godert and Calcatterra.

Saquon, is a Beast period and Battling King Henry for #1 Rushing Spot.

Hurts is a Third RB on the field and plays like one. We need to get him fast so he cant run on pass plays but should focus on where the hell Saquon is at all times as a priority. He runs out of the pocket and will take off for 20+ yards in a matter of seconds. He has only 150 Yards or so less than Kyren. Jalen is 2nd in the NFL in rushing TD. Most are Tush push. This team Runs all day and avgs 181 yards a game rushing.

Good news is they struggle in Zone coverage sometimes. We also Cannot do man coverage as Smitty and Brown will burn our secondary fast.
They will go for 4th down Alot.

We need to Run 12 Personell as well to help left Side. Dean and Baun are no joke at all and will break through. We are even in terms of Qb sacks

Our Def is one of the Best in INT and thiers is one of the best in Fumbles. They do tend to fumble the ball tho. They at times have stuggled with tackles.

If we are going to upset a team, Eagles would be the one that we can. They have not Faced many decent teams. They are coming off a Mini Bye A team we face coming off a bye or mini bye? Nah Never!

Easier said than done but just keep hurts in the pocket on passing downs. In the games I've watched I haven't seen him make many plays when he has to stay in there.

I've been very impressed with the Rams run d over the last month. Get them to passing downs and let the dline get to work.

Of course that means the dbs have to do their job. Always live in hope.

Run Kyren and Blake left and right. If we get #79 Hav back oh baby McVay should run that dual train. VERY impressed by rookie 6th round C Beau Limmer. Stafford is and always top notch at play action with Kupp or Nucua in motion. C'mon McVay... be smart yet simple. Shula's doing his part. LFG Rams, this is the ONE game left that will determine our playoff odds. JMO.

It's McVay against Vic Fangio again.
In mid-January, we knew the Rams would be playing the Eagles in 2024 and later in January the Eagles announced the hiring of Fangio.
So, I'm guessing McVay started plotting/planning for this game in late January.
Maybe Sean Desai has something to add to McVay's analysis, or not.
I'm confident McVay has somewhere between one and one thousand ideas on beating this Eagles defense - and I wouldn't be surprised if several/many/most of those ideas ended up being contrary to popular "knowledge"/"wisdom". Oh no!!!!

Last year's Rams defense felt (to me) like they just could not get off the field against the Eagles. (The Eagles punted once.) Hurts was their leading rusher against the Rams. This year's team seems to be tackling better now than earlier this season and hopefully they can do better against Hurts than last year's defense.

E-A-G-L-E-S Losers!

Barring turnovers, injuries or some unorthodox masterful gameplan by Mcvay or Shula, I see a loss.

They are the better team.

We also need Stafford's absolute best game of the year and the Oline's best game.

All of which are possible.

We need to start fast. We've punted on our first two possessions four times the last five games. (We are 4-1 though but this will take a better effort). The Eagles defense has allowed 6 TDs and 8 FGs the last 6 games (11.3 pts per game due to a couple of 2 pt conversions). Teams have scored 2 non-offensive TDs in those 6 games (Fumble return/Blocked FG return). Their D has forced 11 turnovers in the 6 game win streak. A win streak vs Cleveland (2-8), NYG (2-8), Cincinnati (4-7), Jax (2-9), Dallas (3-7) and Washington (7-4). Still it's going to take a complete ball game from the Rams.

Fast start
Ball security
Balance on offense
Good tackling
Pressure on defense (*with containment)
Gap integrity

Elliot hasn't made a 50 yard (+) FG (0-4) in a season when FGs from 50 yards are happening more often than ever.
Saquon was held to 66 yards vs Dallas (14 att) and 47 yards vs Cleveland (18 attempts). He didn't score in either game and had 3 receptions for 17 yards total, but the Eagles put up 54 points none-the-less.
Hurts (5 int) has thrown just 1 pick in the last 7 games. He's been sacked 14 times in the last 5 games. He's fumbled 6 times on the season.

We're going to need a yeoman effort on defense and our offense has to play like they're capable of playing. Plus in the turnover battle is a must.

I can't see a Rams win here......but, nearly every time I predict a Rams blowout loss Im wrong.
Very tough match up for the Rams.....the Eagles D reminds me of the physical D of the Whiners from a couple of years ago.
Controlling the ball and containing the QB on D will be key.
I just don't see the Rams having the horses here.
McVay needs to break out a new look or two for this one I think or it likely will be a game that gets away from them over time.
I will interested to see how Shula approaches this game.
Rams need to win at least one against the Eagles, Bills and Whiners.
Good news is the Whiners appear to be floundering and with road games against the Packers and Bills up next for them they could easily be 5-7 in two weeks.
Its the Cards division to lose.

Scoring ANYTHING, even FGs on the first couple of possessions will be huge.
The Rams O has been so lethargic in the first half of games it is frustrating.
Getting down to the Eagles, say 14-0 and Stafford will get ravaged.

Every game, our rookies and 2nd year players are getting better. With the Oline complete with Big Rob, Stafford is about as good as it gets throwing the ball. Of course we can win. Would prefer a fast start for a change.

Eagles defense has been good against the pass. But some teams they played, Falcons, Saints, Bucs, Browns, Giants, Jaguars and Cowboys minus Prescott are not exactly a who's who of star quarterbacks. We will see how they do against Stafford, Kupp and Puka.

Jalen Hurts is the one who concerns me the most. He's slippery and hard to contain. And they have a good run game with two good receivers. Its gonna be a challenge for our young defense.

Explosive plays on Offense are key for us. On Offense for us they can be created by big shots down the field, run after catch, big run from scrimmage or a pass int deep down the field. This is no game to be methodical. I think the eagle secondary will jump the over route on play action so Stafford should be looking to the deep receiver and launch it.

Well then the mantra will be, "not gonna win settling for 3"! :laugh2:But yeah, I get you. It would be nice to see the offense come out full throttle from the get go, putting it in the end zone and giving the young D an actual chance to pin their ears back early.

The only quality QB they faced was Burrow, 2 if you want to count Cousins in week 2 but he was still acclimating to the Falcons players and offense.

They have 181.3 yds per game rushing average (5.0 yds/att). Barkley has 1137 at 5.8 ypc and leads the NFL in rush attempts. Hurts has 417 at 4.1 per attempt. The first 4 games he ran 42 times for 163 (3.9) with 2 TDs, the last six, 61 times for 254 (4.2) with 9 TDs. Gotta contain him but that's easier said than done. Keeping them out of 3rd and short or 4th and short would be huge.

The 3 teams who held them under their yardage average (Green Bay 144, Tampa 113 and Cleveland 116) either led (Green Bay 3 times, once in the 1stQ, twice in the 2ndQ and once in the 3rd Q and Tampa for the entire game, 24-0 in the 2ndQ) or we're close/tied (Cleveland for the entire game). So yeah, get a lead or at least keep up the pace and get a takeaway or two. Tampa also sacked Hurts 6 times. Green Bay only twice but they picked off 2. Cleveland had just 1 sack and 0 picks.

Complimentary football = the offense helping out the defense and vice versa. It's going to be a tough game but the Rams have the opportunity to put it all together against a tough opponent and gain a ton of confidence.

EDIT: What I'd like to see is a couple of back to back TD drives. We've only done that 4 times this year in 104 possessions. Twice vs Minnesota and twice vs New England.

This is going to be a tall task for the Rams. The Eagles are peaking so that can be good and bad for us. If they've reached the top of the peak teams tend to have a one or two game skid before they start an upward trajectory again. The Rams haven't really found their peak yet, with inconsistent play this season which is why they are 5-5. If the team that showed up vs Minnesota shows up on SNF then the Rams have a fighting chance. If the team that shows up vs. the Bear, Raiders, or Dolphins then it will be a long evening.

I'm looking at the next 3 to 4 weeks for the Rams to really show us who they are. Are they are playoff contender? Or are they too young of a team devoid of needed talent at key positions? Well we're about to find out.

Rush needs to be disciplined.

OL needs to have their best 5 and pass protect well early on so Stafford can get rhythm early.

If those protections on both sides favor us we have a chance. We need a full team game this week. Everybody has to do their jobs.

If we drop this one we will probably be sub .500 going into the final stretch. So this is a big one for us. Tough opponent we gotta beat.

Or like the 2023 Eagles......win 5 straight to get to 10-1, then lose 5 of the final 6?

And who knows, maybe the Rams are peaking right now too (won 4 of the last 5).

Truthfully, if we're peaking up to now, we're in trouble. Let's start that "peaking" Sunday Night.

Matchups to watch...

1. Verse vs Mailata. I expect V8's gonna need to move around, as Mailata can handle power and the Eagles are strong at both tackle spots (and overall have an OL performing exceptionally well). But it should be enlightening to see where our young edge is vs a top LT.

2. Carter vs Avila. Carter is a stud, and they can move him anywhere on that line, but I'd expect his best shot to control this game is vs Avila. Reason is Dotson can be had, but he's stout as hell, whereas Avila just returned and probably isn't in his best form yet. So I expect they'll start the game out with him focused on working Avila and it's going to be as tough a draw as there is for our young LG.

3. Gardner-Johnson in coverage on Rams pass game threats. When they walk him up on a receiver he can be had.

What I like about this game overall is I think our OTs can handle the edge rushers of the Eagles. The challenge will be on the interior but we should be pretty damn stout in there now that we're getting healthy.

What I don't like about this game overall is we are going to need to be able to run up the middle to keep them honest which is very tough vs this Eagles front. So I am worried McVay will concede that instead of making them work. If he goes to his gadgety bullshit too early it's gonna piss me off. I prefer he mix in those interior runs to keep them honest throughout the game and those big boys on Philly's front should start softening up late.

For me it's about the OL allowing Stafford to heat up right away. So critical because otherwise we're gonna struggle all day to do anything on offense. And our defense, good as that front is, tends to give up big plays occasionally. Offense has to show up to win this game.

Can anybody stop the Tush Push?
It looks like it is pretty impossible to just try and muscle it to a stop. They go so low and it is impossible to beat them at that because they know the snap. I was at the last game and boy the crowd really got loud. That could even that advantage up. Even still they have major size advantage and it probably still can't out muscle them.

After the snap and they go low the D seems to always dive over the top. Even when Hurts is stopped the players in back just push him thru cause the D has no footing and are pushed back as they push Hurts to the 1st down or TD.

other than keeping out of that short yardage situation, how can they be stopped?
