drank at a 690 year old pub today

I was actually talking to a guy about the age of the pub vs the US when I told them I was living in the states and I served in the Army to get my citizenship. The bartender asked why I did that and an older guy at the end of the bar said "Can you blame him? Look how fast it took them to rise to the top!".. we had a good laugh over it.
