I was a huge Marshall Faulk fan back in the day. To this day he's the best running back I've ever watched. His spin move defied logic. Pulling a spin move without losing speed, momentum, or balance is a gift very few running backs have. But Clyde Edwards-Helair has a nasty spin move. It was on full display against Alabama.

I watched Faulk all through his college days. I knew then he was a special player. He's an interesting guy who frequents the golf course in Torrey Pines. I've been privileged to have coffee at the restaurant by the putting green on a few occasions. I used to work at the hotel and course. He's a very interesting man.

I haven't seen enough of Edwards to make a good comparison. But if the comparison is accurate, the Chiefs have a very good scheme fit at RB. That said Marshall ran a 4.2 at the combine and a 4.3 at his Pro Day. Edwards's official time is 4.6 which is average in the NFL. What I have seen is good acceleration, evasiveness, and power. But his long speed means he can get run down which might limit his long runs in the NFL.

I think he's a very good RB but his success in college was because of the system he played in which is similar to what the Chiefs run. But the defenses he's going to face are far different than what he faced in college. Bottom line is I'm not willing to elevate him to Marshall's status based upon what I know about Marshall and Clyde. The NFL is a prove it league and that's exactly what he's going to have to do.

Nah. He's not Faulk. He's more Ray Rice than Faulk.

I watched a bit of LSU last season and there are some similarities when you watch the tape but I never thought of Marshall while watching Clyde. Marshall’s college stats outweigh Clyde’s in terms of sheer volume ... maybe due to LSU being such a dominant side whereas San Diego State relied on Faulk a fair bit. Time will tell. If he becomes half the player that Marshall was the Chiefs have got themselves a player. It may also be that I hold Faulk up as this unbelievable player that no one else should be remotely compared to him.

Having said that I see Terrell Lewis as the next Derrick Thomas. ;)

What I see is a back with the quick twitch and short area explosion on the same level as Faulk. He’s going to at times break the ankles of half the defense and have them falling one direction while he’s already at full speed in the opposite direction.

He also is a good route runner and WR out of the backfield like Faulk.

But he doesn’t have the world class long speed that Faulk did. In that sense he seems like he might be more like an Emmitt Smith.

Faulk was also a top pass blocker and a goaline Savant.

But in terms of explosiveness and those Ankle breaking jukes it really is reminiscent of Marshall.

I wanted the Rams to get Helaire, but he does not remind me of MF. Now that he's a chef, he reminds me of Lawrence Phillips... Piss off.

lol @SuperMan28 , you should know he's not MF ;) . And those spin moves vs. Alabama, he was at full stop, no momentum. I saw Lamar J. put on a spin move clinic last year, and CE-H didn't show me that -- you got any other clips?

He wasn't at top speed, I do agree with you there. But spinning isnt all he does. He has a 39.5" verticle and a low center gravity, high contact balance. And yet, he uses his blockers like Leveon Bell a little bit. His lateral movement is while keeping his Shoulders square is special. So, he's really his own guy. I think if his 40 woulda been sub 4.5 like Swift then theres no way he goes at 32. But just a reminder, Kareem Hunt ran in the 4.6's. Many Chief fans says he's our new Priest Holmes who ran in the 4.7's. But Veach told Andy he'd remind him of Brian Westbrook to which Andy replied "He's better than Westbrook." So, he's really a man of many parts. But ultimately, he's his own man.

I have no clips but this film study is really great. Enjoy!

They talked about Akers in this video. They say he's a better dual threat option. That's important in the Rams offense. Good fit.

I hate when people say that..even Andy Reid..How can he say that this new, never been in the NFL, rookie is better than Westbrook?

Oh! You wanted Clyde? Sorry buddy lol. Was he your #1 back? I must be honest I thought we were going JK Dobbins. But I didnt know about CEH's route running before we picked. Break away speed is a big deal to me as well. But Mahomes told Veach he wanted Clyde out of everybody, including Ruggs. So this is Mahomes pick.

Akers will out perform him.

Marshall's True Freshman year won the rushing title on a so so SDSU team. Before anybody says he played nobody's the played some legit teams like the Canes that season and his offense only so so.

Does CEH remind me of Faulk? Absolutely not. I like him a lot but he's not Faulk. He reminds me a lot more like Brian Westbrook coming out of college.

Brian Westbrook was a God Damned nightmare to.

Hopefully we match up on another Monday night thriller! lol

p.s. Please paste the Raiders this season!

Oh its truly fascinating to watch these two! But Faulk is simply faster than everybody on the field lol. I just see him using his vision and running by guys. Keep in mind quality of opponents here. Clyde going up against Alabama, Auburn, and Clemson is a bit of a different story.

One thing I noticed though. When Clyde is juking he's keeping his shoulders more square. This is also true when moving more laterally, ala Leveon Bell.

It's clear Faulk fine tuned his game in the pros. But in this film, he's just a far superior athlete going up against schools that didnt produce a lot of NFL calibre talent. But Faulk's game speed is undeniable. The man was a blazer. Home run threat with every touch. That's who he was. (Man I miss watching that guy! I always felt his career ended a little short with injuries.)

Clyde going up against Alabama, Auburn, Clemson but what you don't take into consideration is Clyde is playing with 5, 4 and at the lowest a few 3 stars recruits and as for Marshall he might play with a few 3's if he was lucky.

It's all relative.

IDK how old you are but this was when I started following college recruiting, players nationwide etc. being in my early teens myself playing football and eventually being recruited to play 1A football. Very familiar with Faulk in these days because I was a huge fanboy before he ever became pro.

Faulk was playing with basic talent and against basic talent ( he did the same thing against the beast ass Hurricanes and other top teams) while Clyde constantly plays with and against top tier talent. really no valid point to denigrate Faulk's opponents.

The beginning of the end.

.

Actually I misspoke on that lol. Veach and Reid texted Pat just kinda having fun with it. They asked him who he would want out of any skill position player. (To be honest I figured he'd say Ruggs.) But he said Clyde. Veach was already already talking him up with Reid, as he did Pat in 2017, weeks before they asked Pat. They both laughed when the text came back.
