Seriously, damn you Disney, not only will they have a live action Star Wars show Jon Favreau is creating now they will have shows about Loki and other Marvel characters with the actual actors from the movies playing them? Just take my money now Disney. Just take it.

https://www.yahoo.com/movies/loki-scarlet-witch-other-marvel-004926447.html

Disney is enlisting Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as the company prepares to launch its upcoming streaming service. The entertainment giant is in early development on an ambitious plan for a number of limited series centered on popular characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These series will likely include shows centered on Loki and the Scarlet Witch, along with other beloved superheroes who have yet to appear in their own standalone movies.

Marvel and Disney had no comment.

There’s an important distinction from other Marvel small screen efforts, however. The actors who portrayed these heroes and villains in the Avengers films and their spinoffs, such as Tom Hiddelston and Elizabeth Olsen, are expected to play them in the streaming shows. Moreover, though sources close to the production are staying mum on the cost of the programming, the budgets are expected to be hefty rivaling those of a major studio productions. Each series is expected to include six to eight episodes. Marvel Studios will produce the shows and Kevin Feige, the guru of all things MCU, is expected to take a hands-on role in their development.

The pricey gamble with one of the crown jewels of the Disney film empire is a sign of how much the company has riding on its direct-to-consumer platform. As companies such as Netflix and Amazon continue to grow their user base, Disney is trying to find a way to establish a toehold in the streaming revolution upending Hollywood. The company has kept the details of the service close to the vest, beyond saying that it will likely cost less than Netflix and will launch at some point in late 2019.

Disney has already started to unwind its licensing deals in order to put as much premium content on the platform as possible. That’s meant that the company is forfeiting billions of dollars in profit, as well as shouldering the cost of developing the technology. The company has announced a number of high-profile projects, including a Star Wars series overseen by “Jungle Book” director Jon Favreau, a show based on “High School Musical,” and a live-action “Lady and the Tramp” film. The company also plans to offer several new releases when it launches, including its live-action “Dumbo” film and “Captain Marvel.”

Many of these projects are expensive bets. The Star Wars series will reportedly cost $100 million and the movies are expected to carry budgets north of $25 million. However, Disney has to spend big to make an impression. Netflix, its main rival, has 125 million subscribers globally and has lured top talent like Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story”), Kenya Barris (“Black-ish”), and Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy”) to its platform with record-setting deals.

The Marvel series are in early development and writers have yet to be attached to the projects. Marvel TV Studios and Disney have been active with shows that include ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and Netflix’s “Daredevil,” but sources say those shows will stay under Marvel TV banner with these limited series set under Marvel Studios.

Storylines for each series are still being teased out, but Disney appears to be holding back some significant fire power for the big screen. Insiders stress the Avengers that have gotten their own movies like Iron Man and Captain America will not be featured in the series with the studios focusing on characters who have served as second tier characters in the MCU.

When all is said and done, the Avengers shows could be the streaming service’s most ambitious project both in terms of their scope and budget. Most important, it gives the service something that will attract comic book fans and represents the type of content Netflix would love to get its hands on.

Screw Hollywood! First they over charge for their channels and now they want to over charge us for streaming services? When will this stupidity end? Put crap on your regular channel that you make us pay for then put other crap on a new streaming service that we have to pay even more for oh hell no.

It's not over priced of people pay for it.
The market place determines price and value.
Always has.
Always will.
You can go get a hamburger for .99 cents or a burger for $25. Is either one a value? Depends who is buying it and why.
Repeat with every product on the market.
None of this stuff is a right.
Don't like it, don't consume it. Costs too much? Don't buy it.

Just saying, no point in complaining.
I wouldn't pay for it either.
TV, regardless of form, is an advertising medium.
If you look back before pay TV services.....look at how God awful the shows were. No competition. Just have to have something as a vehicle for the commercials.
As it has expanded from 4 channels to hundreds programming has gotten so much better. All but a very few top shows from back then could even survive now.
With more and more online/streaming venues I expect the options and quality to continue.
I personally don't get into too many shows.
My wife on the other hand seems to be binging a new one every week.
Good times.

This is why I can't complain too much about the new surge in streaming options. TV is in a golden era at the moment. With cgi to the point that tv shows can have movie quality special effects and the competition being so heavy for a families monthly entertainment budget it is forcing everyone to step up their game. And allowing a lot of originally creative, and quality shows to be made that pre-streaming service TV wouldn't have had the balls to make. On top of that, the good companies (ie-Netflix, hulu, etc) allow you to start and stop service at will. You can easily budget paying for one streaming service a month and just start and stop and skip between them from month to month to watch any shows they have to offer.

My hope is it's going to force satellite and cable companies to rethink their business model and make them not treat their customers like shit eventually.

This is just the future with all us cable cutters out there. I have not had cable or satellite in nearly 7 years. But I have Netflix, Hulu, and HBO.....and guess what, it's still cheaper than cable. Not to mention the antenna I bought so I can watch football.

Beats the alternative.

After I posted that I realized the hypocrisy, since it's on a football forum. I like TV as much as anyone but on a whole we would be more productive with less. Maybe read more, learn more useful things. Maybe exercise more. But the part that gets me is just how much money is involved with our entertainment. It's mind boggling that it is such a huge portion of our lives. I'll ad computer gaming and the internet to it all too. We are over focused on being entertained.

Sarcasm? I love it. It's a way to disrupt the telecom giants. Instead of having to pay the ridiculous prices for cable or satellite for a bunch of channels you don't want, you can buy the few channels you do want! It's going to actually force the telecom companies to compete for the first time in a long time.

However, this is a huge risk for Disney. I'm surprised they're doing it.

So you're picking the other evil that I'm not picking. Networks charge the telecom companies huge fees and in turn the telecom companies charge us huge fees. It wasn't sarcasm I am critical of one of the agencies screwing the public.

Telecom companies aren't competing. That's why we're getting charged huge fees.

Networks charge more and more each year for their channels and the telecom companies pass it on to us. The only people losing out are consumers.

And how do you stop that? By forcing them to compete. If you get to pick and choose what networks you want, you're going to force both telecom companies and networks to drop prices.

So two telecom companies both getting over charged by the networks will help consumers? Guess that's why half of Los Angeles doesn't have the Dodgers on TV because that competition isn't helping anybody. I get the more competition company but if networks set their price and the telecom companies are complicit in screwing the people it isn't gonna change anything. There are already at least 2 telecom companies for people to pick from plus the cord cutting options. And those telecom companies aren't dropping prices or hurting for a dollar. I understand where you're coming from but having run businesses for a long time just have a different view on this subject.
