.

they were leading 24-20 with 2 mins to play.

4th and 2 at the bucs 7 yard line.

they call a qb sneak into the meat of the bucs line?

try not to make it too obvious jets.

that was worse than the zero blitz in the last seconds against the raiders last season. the rams were so bad against them the next week they couldn't even throw that game. although i think they tried on special teams but nsimba ran straight into the kicker.

.

to get a top 5 pick.

the question is why would they call a play that obviously wouldn't work?

.

So they threw a game to avoid moving from pick #4 (current slot) to #5 or #6 (depending on tiebreaker with Carolina)?

Not buying that one. Easier to conclude it was just a bad play call.

it wasn't 4th and inches, it was 4th and 2 against the stoutest dline in the league. that's not a bad play call, that's the worst call in the history of the nfl.

Saleh said that the play was called in to the qb incorrectly, it wasn’t supposed to be a sneak. He must’ve been really pissed off to admit that and throw somebody under the bus. Of course in true jets fashion they had called time out to make sure there were no mistakes at this crucial moment. So either the qb ran the wrong play, or the OC called the wrong play and the coach wasn’t in a position to overrule. Not a good look.

Immediately after the game, Saleh discussed the fourth down play call and blamed the coaching staff for not more clearly explaining to rookie QB Wilson that the play which usually gives him the option to hand off to the WR (Berrios) on a reverse or sneak it, was to be handed off with no option for Wilson to sneak it.

Saleh took some responsibility but (without naming Mike Lafleur) pointed to his Offensive Coordinator.

It's been a big topic of discussion (local sports) here in New York the past few days.

Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence.

Goes doubly when you are talking about a franchise like the Jets.

If the Jets had wanted to throw the season, they would have let Jacksonville score the 2pt conversion that would have tied the game the week prior, and found a way to lose THAT game. Losing to the Bucs wouldnt do much for their draft status other than move ahead of Houston. Who they could have lost to as well....
The Jags game was the one "to lose", as that would have put them in solid ground for #2 overall

Saleh doesn't seem at all like the type to throw a game. New HC mistakes & growing pains are a lot more believable.
