Fun Thread ... especially for us older guys that can go back to OL Charlie Cowan, Joe Scibelli and Ken Iman.

Thought there were just two players that were SO GREAT they deserved at least a brief mention.

PARAM got one of them above with Hall of Fame guard Tom Mack.

The other player ... who I do not believe has yet been mentioned ... is DT Larry Brooks.

Here is a take from someone that got to see him play his entire career.
The Rams had some great defenses in the 1970s, with players like Merlin Olsen (my all-time-favorite Ram), Jack Youngblood, Isiah Robertson, Jack Reynolds, Fred Dryer, Dave Elmendorf, Pat Thomas and Rod Perry.
... But the Best Defensive Player on the Rams in that decade was Larry Brooks.

For you other old-timers, feel free to disagree ... I am going to have some prune juice and take a nap.

How about Coy Bacon?

First game I remember watching was Rams vs Steelers Superbowl... so never really connected with the older Rams greats. Fearsome Foursome are true legends I would have loved to see live.

My list and I know I'll miss some....
Faulk, Warner, Bruce, Holt, S-Jax, Hekker, Kupp, Woods, Kyren, Puka, Stafford, Dickerson, Amendola, Jim Everett, Henry Ellard, Jackie Slater, Donald, Ramsey, Robert Quinn, Orlando Pace, Chris Long, Todd Gurly...
Great list!

I can't believe I didn't put Stafford in the poll list. I didn't intend it to be comprehensive, just to prime the pump. And you guys sure have come up with some great lists!

I'd have to add:
Stafford
Puka
Ellard
Snow
Big Whit.
Larry Brooks!
Tom Mack
Freddy Dryer (2 Safeties one game-both in the 4th quarter!)

BTW, I'm ashamed I ignored OL with my list of favorite players. In my defense though, I have 4 autographed Rams jerseys. Deacon, Youngblood, Tom Mack and Aaron Donald. I have 5 autograped photos. Jackie Slater, Tom Mack, Roman Gabriel, Deacon Jones and Eric Dickerson.
We are equally ashamed of you.

How about Coy Bacon?
Great pass-rusher ... not that interested in run defense ... Bacon would put a ball-carrier on his ass if he passed Bacon on his way to the quarterback.

Seriously though, Bacon would not qualify for the 1970s' Rams defense because he was traded after 1972.

However, Coy Bacon may well be the Most UNDER-RATED Pass Rusher in the History of the NFL.
Never gets mentioned in the elite group that he belongs ... in my opinion.

Some fun Bacon stats ... unofficial because he played before Sacks became an official stat ...
Did not become a starter until his age 27 season; and played through age 39.
Credited with 21.5 sacks in 1976 ... 14-game season. Credited with 36 sacks in his age 36-38 seasons.

You guys have mentioned a couple I SHOULD have.
Johnny Hekker for one. The best player during the Fisher era.

I'm gonna throw in Greg Gaines b/c he's a gear head like me.
Gaines 3rd-and-one run-stuff (along with Aaron Donald) set-up the game-winning 4th-and-1 Donald pressure and incompletion to secure the Lombardi Trophy.

Gaines and Donald each grabbed the RB (Perine) by one-arm, and TOGETHER they stuffed him for no gain.

Despite it being a Super Bowl, with a Million cameras for every angle ... Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth were Too Incompetent to even mention Greg Gaines critical role on that critical play ... choosing to insist that Donald made a one-armed-tackle all-by-himself ... when it was a two-armed-tackle ... one arm by each player.
