Patriots give running back Daryl Richardson a tryout

The New England Patriots need a running back, given the season-ending knee injury to versatile tailback Dion Lewis. As of Tuesday, only one running back has gotten a tryout.
It’s free-agent Daryl Richardson.
A seventh-round pick of the Rams in 2012, he spent two seasons in St. Louis and has since not appeared in a regular-season game. Richardson has had stints with the Jets and Texans, most recently as a member of the Houston practice squad.
At five feet, ten inches and 196 pounds, Richardson fits the 195-pound minimum that Patriots coach Bill Belichick prefers in a running back, a point made by Tom Curran of CSN New England on Monday’s PFT Live. However, Richardson didn’t do enough on Tuesday to emerge with the roster spot.
Also receiving tryouts in New England were tackle Reid Fragel, tackle Keavon Milton, and guard Torrian Wilson. Those aren’t a surprise; the Patriots have been riddled with injuries on the offensive line.
