Just a thought. Don't kill the brainstormer.

It appears to me that Fowler is due 12Million with 9m base and 3m roster. All Guaranteed.

I'm not a cap guy. Does Guaranteed go into effect if and when he makes the roster or is it guaranteed now.

If not Guaranteed I would consider (harsh as it sounds) cutting him to free up some money on an interior lineman or other needs.

We have the young depth in Patrick, Durham and Obo to make up the production that Fowler provides.

Nothing Personal, it's just Business.

.

it was probably guaranteed on signing the contract. there's no escaping it and the rams don't want to either. fowler is a huge part of their plans to get back to the superbowl and win it this time.

I’m just hoping Obo continues his current trend and we don’t have to pay Fowler at the end of the year!

It appears that we may have some alternatives for the edge rusher position coming up the roster. However, let's wait and see what happens this year before we think about cutting one of our best defensive players. If Fowler plays as good as I think he will this year, he might be looking at 20 million per year next year. Then we can think about releasing him and getting a 3rd rounder as compensation, as long as we have young guys ready to step in. As good as some of these young guys have looked, playing in exhibition games can be much different that playing against number 1 offensive linemen.

I don’t agree at all that Fowler is expendable. Maybe these young guys develop but right now that is just wishful thinking. Fowler is going to be a big big part of this defense.

It's guaranteed right now from the moment the contract was signed. One question and most important though is who's going to get cut that will have more of an impact on the defense than he will?

This is the best case scenario. No reason to cut Fowler now after he starting really coming on in 2018. He will be well worth the money this season. Next year though, hope for some young talent to replace him cause Goff gonna get paid.

It’s a one year deal.
Freeing up $12 M to sign whom?
No one is out there. Maybe after cuts.
But for this to make sense 3 or 4 guys would need to be signed.
We have no way of knowing if the young guys will produce anything.
Sampson has one insane game vs Kansas City and was invisible the rest of the year.
Oko has looked good this preseason against 2nds and 3rds. Everyone has largely done nothing.
I think Oko is going to factor in this year and develop and looking forward to what he does.
It’s about more than sacks though. Fowler usually set an edge and was solid vs the run last year....one of the few Ram players who were.

Fowler on a 1 year prove-it deal is going to work out great. He has talent, great coaching, and proper utilization of his talent. Should put up some really good stats.

Just don't sign him long term. IMO he's not in the class of AD and our other core players who love the game and who are sure to produce after they get paid. He is a risky long term signing let another team deal with that and use our young depth to replace him after the season. Oh and collect that compensation pick.

If you look at his potential Dante should have a very good year. I don't think he will have the kind of year that demands $20M / yr. Those guys have a strong consistent history. Right now Fowler has had one good year with 8 sacks. In this system, he should get 9-12 sacks because of AD and now Ogbo opposite him.

That kind of one-year production will get him a contract in the $14-16M range when you slot it. Why would anyone trade a key pass rusher? He's not Khalil Mack but he's pretty darn good. Stop and remember that this team doesn't make it to the Super Bowl without him. He was a force in the playoffs when it mattered most. That was on a short season. A player with 9-12 sacks is nothing to discount.

It never ceases to amaze me that people always overrate the new guy. Ogbo hasn't done a thing except get hurt, yet people think he's as good or better than Fowler? Dante is bigger and much faster with enough agility to get around the corner with a good burst. Ogbo has yet to show any of that. He's better than many at this stage of his career (basically a rookie) but he's been stymied by second and third unit players. He will struggle against #1 OT's. If he's as good as some people think he should dominate but he's not. He's flashed for sure, but the consistency isn't there. Too many times he gets stoned by a single blocker. There were reasons he dropped as far as he did.

I think given time he will become a solid edge rusher. But what I see is a 6-9 sack per year type of edge rusher. That would be excellent production for the type of player he is. Could he be better?
Absolutely, but there is no way to know. The troubling part is trying to predict how durable he will be.
