Danny Amendola takes pay cut to stay with Patriots
By Marc Sessler/Around the NFL Writer

Taking less money to stay with the Patriots? That arrangement works for Danny Amendola.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that the wideout has agreed to a restructured, two-year deal that will pay him $7.35 million with another $750,000 available in bonuses and incentives, per a source informed of the deal.

Initially slated to make $12 million over the next two years, it's a sizeable pay cut for a pass-catcher set to compete for snaps with new addition Chris Hogan.

Amendola also took a pay cut last season, but outperformed his $1.5 million deal for 2015 with 648 yards and three touchdowns off 65 catches. Had he refused the price-tag chop, Amendola was certain to be released.

It's a crowded house at wideout in New England, but Amendola still figures to see his share of work alongside Hogan and Julian Edelman. With uber-sensation Rob Gronkowski at tight end and satellite back Dion Lewis in the mix, quarterback Tom Brady has plenty of options for an offense certain to rock opponents in 2016.

Good for him, would be nice if more players followed along if necessary for the team's well being. Contracts that have a lot of large money at face value tend to not reach their full potential

Always liked him . He would always stop and sign autographs for my son when we would see him at away games .

Good player that we should have kept. We no longer have that slot wr that we can count on to get that extra yard for the first down

A very underrated slot WR that always knew where the first down was. We could have used that last season.

He's over the hill. The only reason the Patriots want to keep him is for our offensive secrets and how we make it all work.

Love the guy. Deserves everything he's gotten.

As far as banging on the Rams - easy to do - he was hurt a LOT, and we had a LOT of holes in the team at the time. Money was an issue as well. It's not like the Rams cut him, or didn't recognize how good he was.

Has he played a full season yet?

In 2010 for the Rams and in 2014 for the Patriots. In the 2010 season he led the NFL in all-purpose yards with 2,364.

On October 6, 2012, Amendola suffered a dislocated clavicle. In a rare case, instead of popping out, the clavicle popped in and came millimeters from puncturing his trachea and aorta, which could have killed him. Rams' medical staff called around the league for information but no teams had ever had players suffering a similar injury. Amendola was anesthetized before popping the clavicle back into place.

Due to the unusual nature of the injury the Rams were not certain when Amendola would return, but he was able to recover after just three weeks and recorded 11 catches for 102 yards in a hard-fought tie with the San Francisco 49ers. Later he had season-ending triceps surgery

Not surprising he took a paycut to stay there, he's a Boston lad so I'm sure he wants to stay in New England if at all possible.
