Yep. Its nuts. All they do is act well. They don't save lives, they don't fix anything for anyone. They just entertain. Our values seem so out of whack. Its the power of mass media and advertising.
I rarely go to the theaters. It has to be something that I feel can only be appreciated fully on a big screen for me to go. Its too expensive. I rarely rent anything also. I have friends who don't have any television at all and they seem to be quite happy without it. I was remodeling and we went without the TV for two weeks. I was sad to put it back. It's hard to resist the temptation of entertainment.
But think of how many failed actors and actresses there are. (On a side note there should be one word for that, like actri). Its only the best in the biz that make that kind of change and movie makers are dying to get star power in their films.
pirates has grossed $4.5 billion.
matrix grossed $1.6 billion.
sixth sense grossed $672 million.
it has nothing to do with values. these actors make companies a stack of money and are rewarded accordingly.
how did our values come into the conversation?
.
As a society we put great value on entertainment. I believe too much. It leads to the production companies making ridiculous amounts of money which enables stars to get rich.
Then due to celebrity our country holds the stars on pedestals. Then you have other jobs that help people or advance science and discovery and they make so much less. It seems out of balance to me.
Sorry if I offended your trade. It was a comment about our world.

A fairly known actor can be worth millions.I wonder what the average Joe, or even a fairly recognized actor earns? I bet it's a pretty low income career.
Ah 3 days of work ,15 minutes of film, Chump Change for him lol.You should look up what Robert Downey Jr. made for his few minutes of screentime in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
And I should have mentioned he got paid 15 mill, Duh...You should look up what Robert Downey Jr. made for his few minutes of screentime in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
O heck my Ram Bro there's actor's getting paid a mill plus an episode, heck Seinfield had like 3 or 4, Friends had a bunch.Saw a video suggesting James Spader makes 300k an episode of Blacklist.
There's a reason a lot of people are cutting the cord and stopping with TV and all the streaming shit. European soccer is going largely to pay per view at about $15 each game. Movies cost you about $20 a person minimum. Cable services are going up and every year each network is putting more programing on their pay services.
I've had enough of Hollywierd.
If you're posting about the Matrix, John Wick Reeves, O Hell he makes mucho money, millions and millions, But.Good for them.
Supply and demand.
The market place always determines worth.
No one is plopping down $10 to watch me or anyone else here act in a movie.
They can get it and look at the grosses those films brought in....therefore.....they are worth it.
It is a lot of money to play dress up, but hey, so be it.
I just can’t believe Reeves gets that much to be cardboard.
Ehhh.If you're posting about the Matrix, John Wick Reeves, O Hell he makes mucho money, millions and millions, But.
Dude has donated over 75 million to PETA and a Cancer for Kids Group. Props to Him.
