Could be losing a coach

Likely would happen one way or another anyway. He got some play in the NFL coaching interviews last offseason. Figured he'd get sucked up by a college team this go around.

Well, if this happens he will be leaving next week. Recruiting season.

I was hoping a team might reach for him to be an NFL HC. Would at least get us a draft pick. Maybe he will hold out for that possibility or an OC position.

I don’t understand how this is allowed. You can just leave mid season to go coach another team? I know McVay likes to see his guys succeed but maybe after the season at least?

Hard to say, he's got a bright future in the NFL, would probably land an OC job in the next hiring cycle

I was hoping he could get a HC job just like McVay did at such a young age. Would be nice to get a pair of 3rd rd picks.

I hope to holy fate that happens. Scheelhaase would be a minority hire, which would give us two more compensatory thirds.

Off topic, but with all the greed, anger and venom spewing about the college football coaching carousel, the Iowa State AD was refreshingly human. A local Uni here would do well to find an AD like this guy after blasting their current AD into the sun.

Campbell did a great job there with limited resources. So this hire is intriguing, makes me wonder what he might be able to do with the talent he'll have at Penn St.

The biggest reason I would watch their games during his tenure was probably his defense, so that's a nod to Heacock but it requires good HC decision making to give him the rope to be innovative. So while this may not get the headlines of the bigger hires around college ball that are ahead, it is definitely one to watch.

Losing coaches every year indicates a good head coach and system. I don't hear people saying everyone is looking for the next Kyle Shanahan. But I do hear talk about everyone is still looking for the next Sean McVay. Its possible Chris Shula is a head coach next year.

Who are head coaches from McVay's system?

Liam Coen
Raheem Morris

Brandon Staley was a head coach
