I have decided to post about this.

About two and a half years ago, I went to a Urologist about blood in my urine. The urologist decided to do a scope.

Most uncomfortable (not painful) but extremely uncomfortable procedure. I had a growth there but it wasn't cancerous.

However, I started experiencing pain whenever I urinated and had to go quite frequently because I could barely pea anymore and had to stop drinking caffeine alcohol and eventually any other drink other than Water and Cranberry Juice.

But for the last 6 months nothing has helped. I have been in a lot of pain. I was thinking I was going to have to get the thing removed but the procedure had a chance that I would have to use a catheter for the rest of my life. I asked the Doctor how painful that was and he said about the same as the scope. I was not looking forward to that.

Anyway - I was rereading Wheel of Time of all things and a character in the book used herbs in her teas to treat illnesses, injuries and other symptoms.

So that gave me a thought and I decided to look up a tea that may help with my urinating problems.

Corn Silk Tea came up.

And holy crap - it worked like a gangbuster. After two weeks of drinking it, I have absolutely no pain and my urination output has increased tenfold.

I feel like I am back in my twenties when urinating.

So any of you older guys having issues urinating, I highly recommend Corn Silk Tea. The only side effects that may occur is a lowering of potassium and a rash if you are allergic to corn silk.

Oh and with a little sugar, it doesn't taste too bad. No sugar and it has a very bland taste.

What's interesting is that corn was unknown to the World outside of central America and Mexico before Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. So those herbalists were doing every freaky thing to corn to see what worked!

I started drinking Chaga mushroom tea....almost no flavor.
I was turned onto it by a crazy old hippy healer guy used it to help beat gut cancer.
That and Black Seed Oil.....which tastes like motor oil smells. You get used to it after a bit.
Anyway, good for ya.
Stay well.

I think there’s a shitload of information blocking on holistic approaches to health care. I won’t go farther on that subject.

I love this kind of thread. It gives people alternatives to think about. I wonder if we should put up an alternative or holistic medicine thread in Off Topic - possibly sticky it so it stays on top. I think we all want to see each other healthy.

The great thing is that virtually none of these natural remedies are harmful even if they may not work for everyone. And they’re generally a shitload cheaper to try.

Anyway, let us know what y’all think.

Cheers.

I like this idea very much. My wife & I love researching alternatives, and as we get older, and disillusioned with standard treatments, we've tried a number of things to help ourselves that we could share, and I'm sure you all have as well.
Funny story, one day her & I are driving to another town in our area, and she asks me what I'd do if I could start life all over again. I told her some things I would've liked to have done (artist, structural engineer, pastor lol), and then asked her what she'd do.
She said "I would become an orthomolecularist, and try to--" I'm like, "WAIT--WHAT THE HEKC DID U SAY??" We still laugh about this. But apparently it's a thing.
I'll def share your story w/ her, @Tano !

If we put up a stickied thread (meaning it will stay up top), we will want to make sure people don’t get in there and jump the rails, take it in political directions, or just fill it with crap.

I’ll want you guys to help in that respect.

What I’d like to see is it stay on subject and be a resource for people actually looking for alternatives to try.

I don’t aim to steer people away from actual medical advice but to put some alternative ideas out there.

I would also like people to only post about things they or someone very close to them have tried.

I’m open to ideas about what to call it or how to structure it. Maybe Orthomolecular Medicine.

Might want to make it easier and just call it

Possible Herbal Treatments

And put in the first post that this is not to deter people from taking medical advice from doctors but as a herbal medicine that could be used in addition to the medical treatment. However, you might want to ask your doctor first before taking the herbal tea and see if it would conflict with the medical treatment.

As an example, since I was not being treated for my situation, the herbal tea would not conflict with anything. Basically, I was just drinking water and cranberry juice as my "treatment".

I was thinking using that term might make people more curious and want to check out the thread. Even something like "WTF is Orthomolecular Medicine?"
