Colin Kaepernick is still struggling and it is going to cost him $100 million
A "record" seven-year, $126 million contract with $61 million guaranteed. But this is the NFL, and to them, "guaranteed" doesn't mean what it means to the rest of English-speaking world.

Thanks to some fancy wording ($12 million in unlikely bonuses were built into the deal as "de-escalators"), and with most of the $61 million only being guaranteed against injury, the 49ers had a contract that was extremely team friendly and one they could easily get out of at any time. Every off-season during the contract, the 49ers are free to release Kaepernick and they would never have to pay him another dime.

If this was baseball, we would have never called it a seven-year, $126 million contract. Rather, we would have called it a one-year, $13.1 million contract with six option years.

But that doesn't sound as sexy, does it?

Fast forward to March 2016. Kaepernick's 2016 salary guarantees on April 1, 2016. With bonuses, he will earn $14.3 million next year. If the 49ers cut him, they don't owe him anything and they would save $9.4 million against the salary cap.

At this point, it is worth speculating whether this is Kaepernick's final year with the 49ers, and on a contract that still has $100 million left on it.

Kaepernick is not only a player who has not developed into a franchise quarterback, he is actually regressing. How often he throws a touchdown has declined two straight years, and his frequency of interceptions has risen every year.

Also, if we look at his adjusted yards per attempt (yards per attempt, adjusted for interceptions), a good indicator of a quarterback's production while throwing the ball, Kaepernick's number has fallen each year. He actually led the league in this category in 2012. So far this season, he is 18th.

It will be difficult to justify paying Kaepernick $14.3 million next season for this type of production. In other words, there is a good chance that this is Kaepernick's last season with the 49ers.

If Kaepernick is let go in the off-season, he would have earned $25.9 million in two years since signing his deal. That means he would never see $100.1 million of his so-called $126 million contract.

That's a pretty hefty price to pay.

I said it a million times and I'll say it til I'm blue in the face, Harbaugh and the 9ers made the biggest mistake of their regime by giving up on Alex Smith to go with the shiny ~*new breed*~ of QB in Kaep and trying to heap the failures of the past onto Smith. Mostly because I love saying it. :D

Kaep is what he is, a guy with a bomb of an arm, and really fast, but the accuracy and QB mentality of a peewee player whose dad forced him to play even though all he wanted to do was go home and play video games. His everything relied on him escaping pressure and making big runs, and occasionally beating with the pass, but that dumbass organization doesn't want that, they don't want their 'hot commodity' taking hits, so they're trying to turn him into a pocket passer and make him do things he's never done before.

And surprise surprise, he completely sucks at it. Having a big arm can only help so much before you kind of have to make sure you can get it even remotely close to your receivers to make plays, and when he failed before he had Frank Gore to rely on to break 10 tackles and get first downs seemingly at will.

Now it's all Kaep and they're finding out what everyone else already knew, he's crap. He's basically 2000s Michael Vick. All running and no throwing, because he CAN'T throw well enough. Cost Harbaugh his job, and now it's embarrassing Asshole York and Jim "
Carl Brutananadilewski" Tomsula.

I have no doubts if the guy could game manager the Chiefs to 11-5, that Smith could have game managed the 9ers to a win in the super bowl with that stout D and Gore, Davis and Crabtree playing out of their minds.

But instead they got the INT machine and now it's a wonder if he'll even be on the team, and I love it.

Yup....Harbaugh's biggest mistake haunting the franchise. As predicted. Last nights game I thought someone like....oh, say....Alex Smith might have done well in their current offense. LoL

The way Kaperdick sails throws over his receivers' heads is really quite epic. The radio jocks in Atlanta were making fun of him this morning for hitting a camera man in the face with an errant pass last night :))

I wish they were tied into him and that contract more.

They'll cut him and be free of that albatross in another year. I wish they were hamstrung for longer. Maybe he can play juuuusstt a smidge better so they want to keep him.

I just wish they were locked into him for 6 more years. Sucks that they're able to drop him and move on.

Two thoughts:
1] SF structured a smart contract with him
2] He pretty much sucks

Maybe Chip Kelly will take him off SF's hands... :ROFLMAO::LOL:

Is it really costing him money if he shouldn't have had that money in the first place?
